Minutes for qualifying instead of laps?

I was just wondering for qualifying servers why don't the people who run the servers put mintues like irl instead of laps because then you dont have to worry about getting lapped because you wanna let other people go, but then first is already checked out so he just laps you right away and you could throw down a good lap then do a cool down lap like in real life but we can do a cool down lap but not really cool down just cruise so i don't know if but if i could use my server for a qualifying server i would do it not sure why people don't.

whats stopping you from doing a "cool down" lap as it is?

because you get lapped then your down a lap

How would this stop you getting lapped? If anything just make it something like 10mins + 1

The period is like the cool down lap of grammar. Take a cool down lap once in a while.
