Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
So lately I have been taking a ton of grief (story of my life) from rF participants about these two subjects: High Ping and "protests involving collisions." It is an absolute nightmare for rF to try to mediate these two subjects, and I have tried in the past and it is too much work for a human to manage, at least one who has 95% of his life focused outside of MXS at least...
So what I propose is that we rally and get JLV to add 2 things to the game...
#1 - Ping Limit
This would be fairly easy...Add a feature to the servers which would allow for the limit of ping! You could set the number in the args file, and ideally some specifications to go along with it. Add that if the persons ping (or ideally average ping) is above a certain amount for a certain amount of time, that client will be kicked from the server. I am sure this would create a new set of frustrations when a title contender's ping spikes for say 10 seconds during a race in which they have a 40 second lead, and the server kicks them out of the race, but at least those risks would be known ahead of time, and I wouldn't have to read a ton of emails everyday about how lag sucks, and so and so ruined their ever so important 17th place finish in the main event or whatever...
#2 - Safety Rating
I haven't even played iRacing yet but I know that safety rating is the greatest thing since sliced bread! I don't even know how to tackle the subject correctly yet, but if we could even start out getting raw numbers in the stats uploads the expressed how many "incidents" or collisions a rider was involved in as well as the number of crashes they had, that would be a step in the right direction. If we could evolve into safety ratings and licenses managed IN GAME (C, B, A) that would be HUGE and would help organized racing, as well as just general conduct in the servers. This is after all a simulator, and this would insure the most realistic riding possible in the servers, as guys who just like to constantly ram others would never get out of the C license range, and wouldn't be allow into any organized racing, or out of say, the stock track server haha Anywho, people can build on this idea, but this is something that would help MXS immensely, as it has turned into a crash fest/take out/punt/rage fest lately, and people expecting me to police all that non-sense are sadly mistaken "aint nobody got time for dat" lol
Anywho, not to threaten, but I think these things are needed for rF to stick around, well moreso the safety rating, because right now things are just ridiculous to manage now that we have hundreds of racers sign up for events every week, and when we have posse's reaking havoc every week like the texas bros do. Think about it too JLV, this would mean you could get rid of the BAN court and let safety ratings take care of all that mumbo-jumbo!!! lol

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
The ping kick would be easy to do. IMO it'd be an awful idea for an organized race though.
Recording crashes is possible. Wish I made the scoring scripts ignore bad times instead of throwing an error. The natural thing to do will be to put the crash messages in with the list of times. Would have been nice if I could have done it without breaking older scripts.

A ping limit wouldn't be fair on people outside of the US due to the fact there ping (No matter there internet speed) Is 200+

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
I agree it's a common complaint though, and something I would somewhat entertain, with testing. I too think it's a bad idea, and most pings people complain about are pretty low actually, and I would set the limit quite high...idkBoblob801 wrote:A ping limit wouldn't be fair on people outside of the US due to the fact there ping (No matter there internet speed) Is 200+

The "Safety Rating" idea is great
But for this to work jlv would have to get better net coding so you can actually make contact (With a guy not from the US) and not have each other get punted from a lag bubble

Yeah it would be an overwhelming amount of work, and I doubt we'll see it happen, but I can dream...lCraig wrote:The "Safety Rating" idea is great

For sure would take a long time to develop but it would put this game on a whole new levelSweendoggy wrote:Yeah it would be an overwhelming amount of work, and I doubt we'll see it happen, but I can dream...lCraig wrote:The "Safety Rating" idea is great

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
I really like the safety rating idea but unless the ping max is like 600 i'd never be able to get on a server.

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
I dont like the safety raing idea to be honest, many people complain about it being to easy to fall and on a race the first corner is just ridiculous. There is always a pileup. Then there will be all the people being like "(crying) ooh, he took me out why has my safety rating gone down?" then it will just lead to arguments, and then them arguments will lead to war!
sorry i got carried away

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
If the SR was implemented, people would think twice before going 5th tapped into the turns. I think licenses, should be mainly dependant on incidents. It would take a lot of work, but rF could take the incident list of a race and manually insert it to determine a persons class if JLV didn't implement something similar to how iRacing does it. Perhaps a specific safety raring would be required to access different servers? That would certainly clean up the Elsinore servers. Would probably take a gigantic amount of work for JLV though.

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
Safety Rating isn't up to JLV. It's up to rF. Sween is just asking for the game to report the incidents. I doubt you would see a change in the Elsinore servers due to it.
It's a fine system, if you're willing to play by it and take the time to learn and understand it. It's ridiculous how many people don't understand the system on iRacing and the amount of rage that hits the forums because of it. That said you won't find better pick up style racing anywhere on the Internet. That speaks volumes about the success of the system.

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
Yeah, I didn't mean put the safety rating into the game itself unless he implements a license. Sorry wasn't very clear after going back and reading what I put.Phathry25 wrote:Safety Rating isn't up to JLV. It's up to rF. Sween is just asking for the game to report the incidents. I don't see how it wouldn't clean up 02 though, since that's basically an rF server alone now. But thinking of the others more, I agree with you.

Re: Ping Limit and "Safety Rating"
safety raiting ist a great concept for car racing. but horrible for motocross in my opinion. I totally understand that it would be an easy way to set riders apart and all that. but you run into this issue, with speed, C class level riders are being moved up because they are consistent, but they may not have the speed to move up. Then you also have the other end were A class riders who are super dirty and dumb racers ( not going to say any names, but i could name a few off the top of my head if i wanted to), who get moved down, and end up dominating classes they are to fast for, but that would work out in the end, cause then they would have to learn how to race cleanly to get back up. However it would work perfect, if you allowed riders with high safety ratings in C or B class, Stay until they feel like they are ready to move up, or they point out. Just my thoughts on the idea. Im not saying its a bad idea, but i think it would need some modification for MXS.
