Just Speculating on Graphics
Now that many graphic engine developers are allowing people to rent out their engine as open source for quite cheap to work with (like unreal engine http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/03/u ... 5-royalty/ and cry engine http://www.gamespot.com/articles/crytek ... 0-6418427/for ex.), what exactly would it take to replace the current system, with direct x and a new updated graphics engine? I know it would take quite a bit of time and reprogramming, but what exactly? Also say the decision was made to switch it over, how long would this take? Now I know those are obviously some hefty graphic engines that take a lot of computer power to run, but I'm just speculating here.

I think I've seen jlv say he would have to pretty much code the entire game over again. I would love a new engine also but I don't think it is practical, better chances of having tear off's I think.

Re: Just Speculating on Graphics
Every time I have seen this brought up JLV has said that he wants to release the source code for the game when he no longer wants to work on it so that someone else could mess with it. This would basically make that impossible.
It would be great but I doubt we will see it happen.
