rFgaming Wishlist

Post by Sweendoggy »

JLV, obviously these shouldn't be taken as demands, but I think the following options for big events would be very useful for us in the future (mostly for automated stuff)...I only have 3 for now but I may think of more in the coming weeks/months as I begin to think about how to improve for 2015
  • Disable user request restart
    Autosave Demo mode (either by client, or better yet save to a server)
    Disable all bike setup changes except on reconnect or restart (so people can't hotkey in setups throughout the race for difference sections of the track)

What if I have a 2015 KTM and I want to change the rebound on my forks mid-moto? This is so biased!

I'm just saying these things would be nice, I have no clue if JLV would actually consider implementing any of them haha

I understand the commitment levels of hosting races is interrupted by real life priorities, but I enjoy the races themselves as is. I wish you guys did the live stream though, that was the motivation for a lot of riders in the past including myself. I would watch your live streams with the commentating and love them! Everything you mentioned I would agree though, automatic demo saving.

Dis, outta' agree as well, I liked/enjoyed the live streams for the same reason, it'd be nice if they'd come back

Never even knew people did that, that's hella smart, but it's kinda op to be able do that, it definetly needs changed

Not sure I get this one. It is disabled when the server is locked.

> Autosave Demo mode (either by client, or better yet save to a server)

Would it be good enough if I just renamed like this before opening default.mxdemo?

default8.mxdemo -> default9.mxdemo
default7.mxdemo -> default8.mxdemo
...
default0.mxdemo -> default1.mxdemo
default.mxdemo -> default0.mxdemo

Wouldn't be beautiful but it'd save the last 10. I don't want to do infinite autosaves since it'd cause problems when it filled up people's drives.

Sounds good to me. I'll lock it when the player is online, in the race and hasn't finished yet.

I know Nickerson does live streams, but the official rF live streams were by far the best commentating I've ever heard.

I thought for sure people could still request restarts after the server is locked, but if not then SWEET! For the demos, I totally agree, there is a big issue of filling up peoples hard drives quickly. Basically I am hoping to save demos for races, even if I'm not actually present, so I may still have the demo for media and protests, and can better moderate. I can not make any weekday events, therefore have not saved a single demo during outdoors, and even though some post demos in their protests, it really seems like the "promoter" should already have it. I think a "log" of default demos would be a great step towards this, and honestly so long as we save at least more than 1 at a time, I could get something put together to grab that file and copy it to another folder and save all the demos as I'd like there (without the impact to all MXS users). Thanks for fixing the bike setup thing... At first I didn't care, because I thought it was used for starts only and that you actually had to go into the chat and hit enter at a minimum, but I have since been told it can be a macro with a hotkey and nearly seamlessly changed throughout the race... Thanks JLV, you are one AWESOME developer, and you have always been very supportive of us and our wild ideas :)

As far as the commentating, I gotta be able to actually make the races to commentate...and with them being during the week I just can't be there right now. Hopefully we can bring it back eventually because I did used to have a blast doing it. As always I'm striving to make rF the best I can, and the past year has not been on PAR with where we should be in my opinion, but with all the hard work Wheels has put in, I think we are close to offering a truly awesome experience, with minimal "busy work" from us, which means we can focus on things like streaming and recaps easier....

I think the main issue is it has taken a while to adapt to our more complicated way of doing things...back when I ran things by hand and helped code very basic HTML and PHP code for the site we had much more flexibility, where as now most minor changes require extensive code changes (which wheels usually needs to do, because I don't understand it). We are almost set up completely now though, and once we have the big stuff totally knocked out we can go through and clean up all the small stuff and get a solid package together for the 2015 season...

Anyway thanks everyone for sticking with us through what I have considered to be a "down year"

I was just thinking of suggesting this one. I think it would be really useful to be able to have maybe about eight demos saved (in the way JLV said: demo1, demo2, etc..). Not really sure how much more difficult it would be, but I would love if it could be somehow saved server side because there are some times when I need to run an event remotely and would still like to have the demos available in case I can't have anybody to save them in-game. Just my thoughts, but again it's pretty over my head as to how much harder it would be to do server side instead of client side.

Thought about this a little more. Maybe it'd be better if it only allowed changes when the bike is stopped? That way you could play with your setup online but still not be able to do in-flight adjustments. What do you guys think?

Ideally we'd have a server demo format since it'd be more convenient and the demo files would be smaller too. It'd more complicated though. I can't just rename a few files to make that work.

Maybe a few seconds threshold? If you're testing setups surely you'll be patient enough for a few seconds...
