track editor updates wishlist

Post by al167 »

track editor wishlist.!!!
much much better user tracks would be made if these where implemented.

1-auto shadow map creation(ingame) (povray is painful)
2- easier skycube creation, (in reflex you place one image that's 4096x1024 like this in and the rest is done automatically)
Image
3-have a model library (and in it, one neat file could contain a model, png and all lods)
4-check box if you want model vertical or set to terrain.
5-have a billboard library
6-have a gradient library
7-sun angle/rotation set in game http://forum.mxsimulator.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=25668

some would be easy, others like shadow map generator much harder id assume!

love the game, hate unfinished user tracks.

There is a program called HDR Shop that at one point had a free version 1.0 that is still floating around the internet. It can convert a spherical mapped image to a box mapped image like MXS uses then you just have to cut each of the 6 pieces and save them out and you have a reasonably good looking skybox (the corners aren't perfect out of the box but I think with some work we could figure out why). This is the technique I used to make the skybox for RF 2014 Glen Helen.

If you can't find the program I can see if I can find it or send it to you. A spherical mapped sky option would be sick though, there are so many free spherical skies available in that format and then we could rotate them to adjust the sun position.

A way to delete multiple gradient points at once would be cool. I hate setting a gradient to the terrain and having to get rid of all the points I don't want.

thanks SMR 510RR ill give it a try!! I found a link here to the free version! https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8koCsd ... 1CMDA/edit

tyskorn, I agree!! Thats also one thing that is frustrating!! the set from terrain feature is amazing!! but deleting all the points is frustrating!! but I still use that feature a lot!! maybe a "delete all points in a set radius" option instead of having to drag them off the screen!!

jlv made a script to convert the sphere map skies to the NSEW images: http://forum.mxsimulator.com/viewtopic. ... 184#p67184 . Really easy to use.

thanks yzmxer608. I did try this once before and got a really distorted sky. ill have to give it another go. but the topic suggestion is for it to be automatically done. say drag a 4026x2048 seamless image into your track folder name it something like "sky" and click "generate sky" button in the in game editor and that's it. everything is then done for you including the enviromap :D :D maybe im just lazy..... and as I said before, have another button on the ingame editor, "generate shadow map" :D :D

My interest was peaked when I thought I saw "NSFW image" then my interest felt sad a went down again.

Did the curved gradient line ever get implemented? While I was stuck on my laptop I tried creating some stuff and alot of times I tried not making just some straight line stuff and made the jump shapes really odd no being able to natively create them in the bend I wanted.

yeah, mxs has an amazing gradient editor for making heightmaps, I used to use photoshop, but mxs gives you exactly the jump shape your after!! you can really do some amazing stuff with it! set the granularity high and have a play you can choose straight or curved when you click on a point.

I mean the gradient line itself, not the points that you can plot once you've set the line.

yes the line can be curved. it curves the section in front of the point that you set to curve.
you should really just try it...... --editor

He is talking about having a freeform PATH to make shapes other than perfectly round and perfectly straight with only 1 gradient.

Alright, I have started playing with the editor more seriously and I have a few more things that would be really cool to implement.

1.Pen pressure-would be cool to be able to adjust strength or brush size via pen pressure

2.A better way to level terrain-Currently its very hard to do in the editor, say you have a downhill that goes around a corner its very hard to keep the track flat without using a lot of gradients and smoothing and some manual adjustments

3.Instanced gradients-If you have multiple of the same gradient it would be cool to be able to adjust them at the same time

4.Delete gradients you no longer need-This would be nice just to get rid of stuff you no longer need without having to flatten them and use them again or put them off to the side somewhere

5.Paint multiple gradients at one time-Somehow select more than one gradient and paint all of them at the same time (this wouldn't be as necessary if gradients could somehow be bent around corners)

6.See the line of the existing terrain while adjusting a gradient-Would be nice to see exactly where the ground is you are working on, once you get rid of all the extra points and start moving stuff around its hard to know exactly how tall something will sit vs. the ground below it.

I think thats it for now.

billboards that don't rotate !

I would use a simple plane however I need less than 75% opacity
