Bad Lag

Hi ive been playing online alot and some of the races are really laggy even when there was only one other guy in there. I read the forms for awhile and all i found was bring the crowd down to 256x126 or something and i have no idea how to do that there was no description on how. its mostly in supercross but like only on the track contest ones never did it with the 2010 sx series tracks, Please help its very annoying it makes me crash alot cause i cant really tell where im going. Thanks
