personalizing gear

hey guys i am really interested in personalizing some gear for myself just fro somethin to do and to start learning how to skin and such. but im having alot of trouble trying it, i dont know what im doing at all in photoshop lol i tried following the tutorials on doing it with no luck. all i want to do is put my name and number on a set of gear that has already been created modeled skinned and ready to ride, not create my own just yet. if someone could help me that would be greatly appreciated
