Frame Skips after format.

So I recently formatted and now MX Sim runs for crap.

I'm getting these really weird hiccups, about every 2 seconds of gameplay, the frame will skip for a moment, and apparently my inputs will also lock during the freeze. Like if I press my front brake right as a frame skip occurs the front brake will be locked until I press it again. I don't even know where to start when tracking this down. This is the same exact PC I had before, minus a SSD holding my OS, it is now located on a spinning HD that was formatted for it's use. When I had to re-install my OS I had two extra drives, one with media, and one with games on it that I did not format. AFAIK they hold no drivers or other important system information.

Any advice? Are there drivers that need to be installed that I just missed? I did all the drivers on the MB Disc, and the newest nVidia driver.

I get a similar issue, it use to happen once or twice a lap but now it happens
every 5-6 seconds. The worst part is the controls are un-responsive when it skips
so the throttle can get stuck on or the brakes etc.

Does turning off demo recording help?

Make sure the game isn't trying to use more video memory than your graphics card physically has.

Same thing has been happening for me. When riding, try taking a screenshot and see what happens. On mine, after a complete format and reinstall of Windows, I still get skips and when I press the screenshot shortcut, my game freezes for about 2 seconds, and when it resumes, the offset of my ping SKYROCKETS. JLV, can you explain why this is happening?

The offset went up because it was busy making a screenshot for you. It's compressing the png and writing it to disk.

Writing it to disk..hm could it mean that theres a problem with my harddrive? I never had this problem before...I really dont know what to do, how to troubleshoot which piece of hardware is faulty without taking my computer somewhere.

Is it at all possible a bad HDD could be causing my problems? I notice that when I sometimes open up windows explorer just to move certain files around, it freezes.

It's not a bug Brutal. That's just how it works.

Understood...I'm just anxious to figure out what's causing all of my problems. I'm ready to go buy a new HDD and install it just to see if thats the problem..but if not, there's $100 wasted on something I dont need...

Here's a search that might help.

Does this only happen when recording demos?

No. I went in, played, got frame skips. Turned off "record demos." Less frame skips for two races. Turned on "record demo." Still fewer frame skips.

Shack...really?

Is Windows Update running in the background? After a fresh install it might be running a lot. Try forcing an update manually and disabling automatic updates.

Not sure. Probably crappy disk drivers. I might be able to work around it by using asynchronous IO or maybe a separate IO thread.

Obviously I had already turned off automatic updates. Went and double checked tonight and even installed a few updates. Same problem. I read through some of the search results you offered and nothing really described the problems I am having. All the descriptions of the problems were skips of 1 second or more, at most my skips are 1/4 of a second. Something really strange happened tonight. I was playing MX Sim alone offline, and the game was running smooth. I got bored and fired up iRacing and played for a while and when I exited I noticed I never closed MX Sim, so I opened the window back up and had major skipping issues, every 1 to 2 seconds the game would skip. I suppose it's worth noting that no other application or game I have used in the past week had any sort of skipping or hanging issues besides MX Sim.

I am so lost, as other than waiting 3x as long for windows to load, and MX Sim skipping my computer, as expected, runs as well as it did before.

My skips are far longer than a 1/4 second. Yet for some reason I only get them once or twice a lap now.
