New Computer

Post by kolevar10 »

Hey all,

I'm looking to purchase a new desktop and dont want to spend anymore than $900. First off I'm trying to figure out what processor to get. Should I go with the Intel or AMD? I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to computers. So any help would be appreciated. I'd like something that can run this game at its max settings with a 20 rider gate. Thanks much.

Spend more on processor and graphics card. But don't get a shitty board. Go with Intel and Nvidia they will use less power and run cooler than AMD. Don't use stock cooler that comes with processor for gaming. If you're running a 1080p monitor or any higher resolution buy a video card with at least 2GB. You want max settings right? You could probably get away with an i5, A GTX660ti, a $120 board (MSI, EVGA, ASUS, GIGABYTE, ASROCK, ETC), an SSD but not a must (so $120-250 for SSD & $75-$150 HDD), $60 case, oh and a decent power supply. At least an 80 plus certified power supply. Anything less is junk! Well hope this helps a little. Just look at what you can afford and really want then come to us with what you've found.

My opinion on this Is there isn't anything wrong with AMD. I run a AMD CPU with stock heatsink without any issues. If you overclock either an Intel or AMD product I would get a different cooling system but if you run stock clocks there isn't any issues. Now I love nVidia and even though I've had an AMD card and there wasn't an issue I prefer them. What he suggest buying sounds like some solid advice. i5/i7 FX4/6 are comparable, SSD are nice but if you can find a 10,000 RPM would be a comparable item if youre not as serious or if you don't care a 7200 RPM drive will work. They all do the same job of being storage devices just depending on the grade will be how quick it can read/write info. As far as anything with the motherboard and PSU, agreed with him. They may not be the most important to your computers speed but if you cut corners on them you will regret it later. Only other thing I don't see mentioned is RAM, 4GB would be the bottom line, RAM is cheap though and I'd just go for 8GB(two 4GB sticks is the easiest and maybe the most common option).

I can't say there isn't anything wrong with AMD. I wish I could. I actually have a HD Radeon 6870 that runs around 75°C to 80°C while gaming with fan @ 50%. It idles around 40°C. When I had my GTX 460 it idled around 28°C and maybe hit 65°C on higher demanding games. The Nvidia drivers are in my opinion, a lot easier to use, more compatible, and has better features.

With a processor you will get with you pay for. Very controversial subject but Intel is more expensive for many reasons. If one processor is running hotter than the other, that tells me it's consuming more power. Therefore, in the long run, Intel and Nvidia will save you money. :!:

I agree with Puma, go with at least 8GB of RAM. I always forget RAM  ty
