Hi guys,
Recently MX-Online closed its doors. All members switched to a new community, MXS-Concept.com
I'm the co-admin and leased this kind of server :
1 core processor, 768 Mb of memory, 40 Mbps of bandwidth.
Ubuntu 12.06
I manage it with X2go, so I've the graphic interface (nautilus)
I installed and lunch 5 servers from the same mxserver application file, just changing the args file in the lunch command to set different ports and track lists.
The problem is that it's really too lagging, even if I only lunch 1 server.
I saw in the console that 450 Mb of ram memory is used.
I did some tests on the 40 Mbps bandwidth and it's correctly between 35 and 40 Mbps.
So, why the hell it's lagging, do you have an idea ?
If the server I'm leasing is not too much powerful, what do you recommend ?
About the bandwith, I'll upgrade to a 100 Mbps plan, or maybe 200 Mbps to be sure it will not lag when the 5 servers will be public.
Thank you guys for your answers

Re: [SERVER] Need help to lease the right server
I upgrade the server I lease to this configuration :
RAM Memory/burst limit : 2048 Mo / 2304 Mo
HDD space : 150 Go
Number of cores : 3
CPU Power : 4 x 2,1 GHz
Bandwidth : 100 Mbits/s
Ubuntu 12.04
I connect to the server via X2go client as I installed the server version on Ubuntu. I just connect to the graphic interface, run my shells wich lunch 4 servers (mx, sx, mxgp and ama) and I turn off the X2go client.
It's lagging really often, the offset reach about -600ms every 2 minutes and there's only 2 players on the server...
PLEASE HELP

Each mxserver process uses around 5 megs. Sounds like you might be on an oversold VPS.

Re: [SERVER] Need help to lease the right server
That's what I thought.
I'll migrate tomorrow to something better.
Are you aware about X2go ? Like NX client. It appears that the server is less lagging when I don't start this service and run the server via putty, with nohup command (god tell me the secret yesterday)

Haven't heard about it. I'm satisfied with command line ssh.

Haha okay but know that not everybody has his brain linked directly to the machine, like in Matrix.
Command lines are well for me, it was just to simplify the job for my co-admin.
Thank you for your answers, I'm gonna kick the host ass.
