APU help

Post by LKR47 »

Okay so I'm building a budget pc. I bought an amd a6 5400k 3.6gh apu and windows is giving it a 1.0 rating. There were at least 300 5 star reviews on new egg so I got it. I can't even run sim on low settings so I was wondering if anyone knew what was up? Also usb 3.0s aren't working and they are enabled in the bios.

Biostar a85w
1tb sea gate hdd
Amd a6 5400k apu @ 3.6gh
500w psu
2 gig ram from old computer ATM but sim doesn't take a lot I don't think

Please help?

Is Windows giving your processor itself a rating of 1? Or is the overall rating a 1? I didnt see what GPU you were running. If your processor is the issue its must be a conflict somewhere or it's installed incorrectly,

My CPU gets a 6.3 rating but my graphics and 3d processing gets a 1.0 which gives me an overall rating of one even though everything is above five. If the CPU was not installed correctly my computer wouldn't even turn on. I don't have a dedicated card yet and won't for a while so that's why I'm so worried about it. Even though I have my laptop to play on.

OK. Windows rating system uses the lowest score as the overall rating. So you need to look at upgrading the areas with the lowest individual score. It doesn't score as an "average". Like I said your overall score will be equal to the lowest score for an individual component. My guess is that your onboard GPU isn't nearly strong enough to run MXS, so you can have all the processor and ram you want but would make little to no difference in running the game without a GPU.

I don't see how that could be though? It has Radeon 7540d for the gpu portion of the CPU?

A 7450 is a very low end card. It has a benchmark rating of 322. I have a medium rated card (GTX560) and that benches at 3,092. Thats not even that good but it is enough to get the job done. My previous card was a 9800GT which benched at just under 1,000 and that was barely usable. Benchmarks aren't the end all be all of deciding on a card but do offer incite as to how that card may perform.

People are saying they can run bf3 on low settings? I do have a GeForce gt 640 laying around but when I install the drivers my computer goes into a boot loop.

I looked up a 7450, sorry. The 7540 isnt much better however, it benches @522. As far as why it would run BF3 and not sim I cant say. It does soundas though your card is a weak link though. I dont know how far you are into this system and how much you are looking to spend but I would consider a new gpu if you want any performance for sim.
