Internet cause lag?
So recently when I play online with around twenty people I will go from 110-125 FPS to 8 FPS. It just randomly drops and stays at 8 FPS for about 20-30 seconds then goes back to normal for another 30 or so seconds. When this happens I notice that my offset rises to around 10,000. Could it start lagging because of my internet?

Re: Internet cause lag?
Next time it happens try recording a demo and seeing it you can reproduce the lag offline.

Re: Internet cause lag?
Okay so I did a race it went down to 8fps so I saved the demo. I went back in to watch and I still eventually got 8Fps. It took longer this time to take a dump on me but once it started it was just as bad. Any idea what it could be on my computer? My computer's temp only gets to about 60 and from what I've heard it isn't that hot for a computer. I have all the latest drivers, so I'm running out of ideas.

If you have a lot of riders with ultra high res skins you could be running out of texture memory. Try going down a step on the texture detail.

Re: Internet cause lag?
I think out of the 29 or so people in the server, I had one persons bike downloaded. What I did do was change my terrain rendering method to software and I was able to play with shaders on and a full gate of guys( I've never been able to play with shaders turned on.) Do you think that could have made the difference or my computer stopped acting up and it will likely do it again? Sorry I keep asking so many questions I've been having this problem for about three months and want to get it fixed.

Re: Internet cause lag?
If you had "Ground Texture Resolution" turned up too far it would waste a lot of texture memory. When you set it to software or copy it'll automatically use a smaller setting.

If it's a laptop, go to the power management settings and put it in high performance mode. A lot of the newer ones like to use the integrated GPU to save power.

Re: Internet cause lag?
I'm on a desktop. I made a second personal folder with just the config/regkey/setup folder, rider stuff I was using and the track I was playing on and it seemed to work. I had 35 gigs of stuff in my personal folder. Is it possible for 35 gigs to create noticeable lag with 6gb of ram? I don't think it would make my game drop from 125-8 fps but I've wrong before.

Re: Internet cause lag?
The unused files won't hurt, but a lot of riders using high resolution skins will use up all of your texture memory. Like I said before, lower your texture settings.

Re: Internet cause lag?
I have the same thing, started happening like 4 days ago. Game drops to 8 fps ever so often and has little lag spikes more often. Have been running with same grapichs setup and most of the tracks for like 1 year and this has never happened before. I cleaned my computer inside the case, did all driver updates and cleaned all possible files that could interrupt something + i can't run the game anymore when my internet is opened.

Re: Internet cause lag?
Well, he confirmed it wasn't an internet thing since he repeated it with a demo. He switched to software terrain which lowered his terrain texture sizes and it went away. Then he gets it again and solves it by removing the skins he had installed. Not sure how many more ways we can prove it's running out of texture memory.
