Resoulution (Track Making)

Post by Sabo »

I have no idea what I'm doing... except that I have a 2049x2049 map that works well with the map being .75 size and resolution at 9. Can anyone give me advice on this? I'm kind of clueless, and have plans to make a compound, which would be larger, and assumbly have a smaller pixel on heightmap/to in game space ratio compared to what I'm currently using. Thanks much, sorry if I made no sense. :D

If what you want is to make your track larger so that you may have a compound, go into your terrain.hf file (Personal folder>your track folder>terrain.hf) and right click it. If you do not have Notepad++ I seriously recommend you download it; it's free and pretty near essential for track making. After right clicking on terrain.hf, click "open with Notepad++" and a screen will show up with groups of numbers, the FIRST number is for your map image size, the THIRD and FOURTH are for max depth and height, and most importantly, the SECOND number controls how big your map is. With the second number, essentially 1.0=100 square feet. The map comes default at 2.0. Determine how large you want your map, and set second number accordingly. I'm not really sure what you mean by "resolution" but if you have any further questions feel free to PM me.

1.0 means that 1px will be 1sq feet, not 100? Also there isn't a default 2.0. If you download the "blank updated" from Matias, that one will be 2.0, if you download my blank maps as I refer to in my guides, they will be 1.0.

That map, is that a decal, or an image or what do you mean? If you want to make the actual "track" 2049x2049 (and not having 1px = 2sq feet, that is a bad resolution), you will need to make terrain.png, shading.ppm and shadingx2.ppm 2049x2049. Once that is done, your terrain.hf should be 10 1 low high, the low high will adjust themselves once you edit stuff in the track editor, so if the track is blank, you can just have them set to 0.

I'm sorry, I meant to say that 1=1000 square feet.
