Okay, so to start off I have a question about models for making gear etc.
Do I have to buy JREV2 or is there a free version of some sort?
It's annoying because I am trying to make some gear and almost every gear I find uses JRE models. If somebody could help me out here, that would be much appreciated.

Go to JRE and buy it. Don't be a dummy and buy it from *some random kid*, support the original creator. If you want to practice, the older p2sta models are free.
