Controller Disabling

Post by sethypeety »

I have a rather bazar issue and was hoping that by sharing it someone could help me out. For a long time now I have had a problem with my controller randomly being disabled in sim. It doesn't do it in MW2, Halo Infinite, MCC, Forza, etc But for some reason it just randomly stops working in sim. Fortunately (or unfortunately) today I realized it happens if my computer plays a notification sound, it's done it to me twice with Steam notifications and once with a Windows notification. I can listen to music or watch a YouTube video without issue but as soon as a notification pops up/plays an audio que it just stops working. Another thing I noticed is if I change audio devices while playing sim the controller will either go from Gamepad 0 to Gamepad 1 or just stop working altogether. Restarting the game works 100% of the time but sometimes restarting the game also makes it change from Gamepad 0 to Gamepad 1.

Completely forgot to add I am using a standard Xbox one controller. My Elite controller doesn't have this problem but I don't always have access to it. My PS4 controller also doesn't have this problem but it is suffering from severe stick drift so it isn't usable.

My code definitely wouldn't handle the controller disconnecting and reconnecting on a different port.

Might be worth trying Xinput if you're on DirectInput or vice versa.
