Anisotropic Filter not effective enough

No Anisotropic --> 2x ---> 16x

Its weird that there is still considerable blurring at 16x. Its as if the mipmaps kick in too early. None of the other games I have are this bad.

That looks about right for that texture. The only sharpness in it is at high frequencies which won't be visible at a distance.

Right, so its just that the texture is too finely sharp?

There's nothing wrong with the texture, it just doesn't have a lot of mid to low frequency sharpness. If you have a black and white checkerboad, it should be rendered as gray if the checks are much smaller than a pixel.
