This is interesting...
So I have been workig on a track. Disp is done in photoshop.
So I generated a nice little terrain. Plopped it in my track folder. Opened it, didn't like the scale, closed the game, changed the scale, opened it, still didn't like it, etc etc etc
So I finally settled on a scale I liked, 0 to 150. Started building the track.
After a few open and closes, all the sudden teh track felt watered down. WTF I said to myself.
Opened up the terrain.hf and the scale said 0.31469 83.21843 or something similar. WTF I said to myself. So I changed it back to 0 150.
A few open and closes later and it does the same thing. This time I didn't say WTF, I just fixed it. So now i am in the habit of checking the terrain.hf each time I open and close the game. Errr close and open the game I guess I should say.
Eventually I figured out that each time I press S to save the updated shadows, it resets the terrain.hf Ok whatever.
Last night I shut the comp down before bed, woke up this morning, fired it up, opened my track. All the terrain was blown up - like scaled up maybe 2x what it should be. WTF I said to myself, opened the terrain.hf, scale was 0 150, WTF I said to myself. Closed and opened mxs again, still blown up terrain. Opened terrain.hf, changed scale to 0 83, opened mxs, terrain was back to normal, WTF I said to myself.
Went about my business, closed and opened mxs with a new updated disp, now the terrain was all "washed down". WTF I said to myself, opened terrain.hf, scale read 0 83, changed to 0 150, closed and opened mxs, and the terrain was back to normal.
WTF?
PS - Definately need a better way to import disp maps because it's really annoying having to open and close the program constantly, plus since my terrain.hf goes nuts every time I open and close the game...

Do you have 100% white on any part of the terrain? I have had the same problem, and it has seemed to fix itself when i put a spot on the track at 100% white.

Re: Scale changes in terrain.hf ??
i noticed this too....
The editor automatically does this. If you lowest height is not 0,0,0 RGB, it will scale it that way. Also, if your heighest point is not 255,255,255 RGB, it will scale the map so that it is. So not only does the terrain.hf change, so does the greyscale map.

Just put 1px of each in the corner of your disp.

Yeah thats a nice work around that will probably look absolutely ridiculous, but really I don't want the game doing this to my files...
