Re: Motocross fitness
Anyone who wants to get serious about training should just buy "Mx Conditioning - Training & Diet" by Gary Semics. Even though I don't have the budget to be racing right at the moment it has helped me out so much. The video is terribly boring but it comes with a manual that I take to the gym all the time.

Re: Motocross fitness
Go get a rowing machine dude.
If you stick at it (40 minutes a day, five days a week is good), it will give you great fitness (apparently better than almost any other activity), good core strength and will do wonders for your legs, back and arms. After using one for a couple of months I found all my clothes getting looser around my waist, and tighter around my upper legs and across my back and shoulders. Also, i totally agree with the other posts recommending push ups and pull ups. Also I'd include wide-grip chin ups (like pull ups but with your palms facing away from you on the bar) and bicycle-motion crunches (will make you realise what pain really is). That's my 10 cents

Re: Motocross fitness
I saved up and got one of these:
Look on ebay and in the classifieds in newspapers for second hand Concept 2 rowers. Doesnt matter if its 5-10 years old, they never break and are definitely the best. If you're gonna buy a new cheaper one, MAKE SURE it's an air resistance type with a chain or strap attached to the handle. Don't ever get a hydraulic one with the levers. They are not at all effective, and can be dangerous.
The best thing about Concept 2's is that they keep a record of your workout and you can see (in watts) how much power you are making in each stroke. It's great for keeping motivated when you can see that you have doubled or even tripled your power output since starting training.
I usually do varying time period training, which for me is 5 minutes warmup (150 watts per stroke) then alternating between 4 minutes at 200 watts, and 2 minutes at 300 until i've been going for half an hour, then 5 minutes warmdown (40 minutes total per day).

Re: Motocross fitness
I had a look on US ebay for you and there are quite a few for under and around $200USD. Just search for rowing machine.

Just MAKE SURE you get one that uses air resistance. That is, it will have a fan on it, usually in a round unit at the head of the machine like these:
