6d helmets.

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

I mean who wouldn't take Doctor Grant Langstons professional opinion on a neck brace seriously?...

For the record I don't care, I just don't get your crusade against neck braces.
Its not hearsay because its actually proven. If I can remember, Langston even offered to show the results.
This is not some "opinion", this is a mathematical fact.

Pros and cons.

- Some think it works great, some also think it makes you a lawn dart.

- Some think they break collarbones only, other's think they break backs (I've had friend break their backs from the brace, Brett is one of them).

It's all situation based really to me. There are so many uncontrollable variables, like what about compression fractures? What if it cause more head trauma by not allowing the head to move? What about the brace actually providing leverage causing for a easier break? What about it breaking and injurying you when it breaks apart?

It's preventive equipment, it does not stand behind being able to 100% fully guarantee that you will not get seriously injured/paralyzed/die. If it's gonna happen, it's going to happen whether you are wearing one or not in my opinion.

I myself don't wear one anymore, I've worn the Leatt and the Atlas, I just feel more comfortable with out one.

MiNi has a point for me. Many riders stopped wearing them braces during the years. In the Grand Prix the same thing is happening. Cairoli (Leatt) rode with it till 2008, same as Rattray (Leatt) and Searle (Leatt), Coldenhoff (Leatt), Bobryshev, Phillipaerts (Alpinestars), Karro (Leatt), De Reuver (He had an huge article about the leatt brace and how good it was, and 2 months later he was riding without one.)

I have seen Steve Ramon his crash in Lommel from the front. And that crash was so heavy, I really think the braces saved him there. But other people are saying that it made him paralysed/injured for a long time. (He is recovered now).

There are so many discussions about it, and i'm always pretty interested in them. I'm also wondering if a bodyprotector helps as much as everyone thinks. Because many Grand Prix/Ama riders are not wearing one. Herlings, Wilson, Durham, Grant, Decotis, Coldenhoff, Anstie, van horebeek and many more. Are they not wearing them to fight against the heat? Or is to act tough? I don't know.

If you believe in that 1%, then by all means, take it. If there was nothing to lose, then I would sure as hell take that 1%. But the 1% isn't enough for people that know the injuries behind a leatt. Collarbones aren't a very big deal but there have been many occasions where leatts actually cause neck and back injuries. Hell, Reed apparently said he stopped wearing it because it was somewhat related to the death of McFarlane. Doctors always like to say "if he didn't have that neck brace on..." after crashes, but have you ever considered how much they really do know about what happened? They didn't see anything that happened, how you crashed or know exactly how your body took the impact in the wreck.

Of course there are people that believe in it. Reed believed in it, Dungey did, so did Millsaps, etc, they all did. But most of them stopped wearing it. The only huge leatt believer that hasn't took it off yet (that I can think of) is probably Windham. Of course there is no real way from this point to know who really does get paid, but the speculations I made based on what I know are realistic. If this was about a couple of riders taking it off, then that would be silly and there would be no need for this discussion. You can say what you want, but if there wasn't any issues then every rider out there would have a leatt and I would still be wearing mine. I'm a huge believer in neck protection. But the leatt has yet to prove to me that it does more harm than good. I too would rather break a collarbone than my neck, but the leatt hasn't proven to me that it can save my neck. When I see a neckbrace that is proven to work, I'll be rushing to grab it.

The CIA planned to use a Leatt brace to kill Hitler. In addition, goggles have a 2.5% of blinding you in a crash. My ophthalmologist told me three years ago, he has started wearing road helmets instead.

Do you wear proper knee braces? Supposedly they send all the force to other bones so you end up breaking your femur instead.

What's your view on that?

Of course anybody is paid to wear a certain brand. That's exactly the point. Short version, all of the believers took it off, the only top riders that still wear them are the ones that are getting paid to wear them and don't care if they wear them or not.

Just answering some questions,

I'm the exact same boat, I would hands down rather destroy my collarbone than have a neck injury/paralyzed/vegetable/die. But like I said, the leatt or any neck brace for that matter, has yet to prove to me that it can save my neck. When I find a neck brace that can, I will grab it right away.

1% chance of for the leatt being effective for neck protection, 1.5% for the alpinestars brace.

I actually don't wear knee braces and I never knew about that. Interesting find though, feel free to enlighten me because you probably know more than I do for this topic haha

You don't think the fastest guys have been offered deals? Why the hell would they not choose to advertise through the best of the best? Go big...well they tried and now look.

My view is that it doesn't matter; that you will still tear ligaments if done correctly. Seeing it happen, and any pro could tell you. Ask Davi.

You'd have to be more specific with your statement I guess

I dont think you understood what i meant. I dont think i understood what i meant from reading that. But, if i was the fastest guy out there, and i liked to race without a brace, it would take the right price to get me to wear one. I would not eat out a 300 pound woman, but if you paid me enough, i would dive in like thanksgiving dinner.

The force has to go somewhere with an impact. When the force bends your knee out, and then hits the stops of the brace, the remaining force is put on these stops. This is transferred to the rest of the brace outward, eventually it gets to the end where it's transferred to your bones where there's no brace. If the brace is stronger than your bones and the force is great enough, your bone will break first.
