Thinkin bout making the switch

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Try using your thumb when turned to the right all the way to the stop. You gotta give it the 'ol reach around.

I think hvpunk62 might have something to say about this. He rides MX and quads and I'm sure he could explain to you the pros and cons.

Yeah, scheeve, pretty much all ATVs here have thumb throttles, but you can adapt a twist throttle onto them.

Alright, time to come clean.. I have a quad. Dad bought it so I can go on night rides in the dunes. It's a YFZ450 and man, I've had it for about 3 years now and it's hella fun. I don't bag on quad riders, and if I do, it's all in fun. Quads are cool when you ride at night and in the dunes. (well, I have a 250f, and it'll blow up) First thing I did was put a twist throttle on it. Makes it acctually enjoyable to ride. But like I said, it's never seen a track. And I plan on keeping it that way.

i dont think you should ask people who only ride motocycles.

i know arma made the switch from quad to bike, so maybe he could give you some advise.
he made the switch after being dutch champion 80cc quad, pretty sick if you ask me XD

the only thing i know is that he had problems with the leaning, he was used to lean on the quad and sometimes did that on the bike.
and side leaning like a quad on a bike is definatelly a no.

i hate twist throttles on quads! I've rode quads for 15 plus years and raced a little bit. We mainly go to the dunes and have an absolute blast. I don't think a bike would be nearly as much fun in the dunes. (we go to waynoka and it is a lot of trails which i think would be really tough to enjoy on a bike) My dad and uncles all raced bikes for years so they throw a twist throttle on everything with an engine. I got used to it for a while but i've gotten more scarey whiskey throttles than the fat chicks that try to ride a bike for the first time. It just doesn't feel right on a quad. always leaning way off the side and what not. Also another reason i don't like a twist on a quad is becaue i stand up alot when i ride and i find it difficult to comfortably keep it on the gas. Twist doesn't bother me nearly as much on a bike though. I can't wait till i'm done with school because i'm buying me a 125 right away and going to learn how to ride a bike. Its so different but i've ridden pit bikes a ton and i just love it. the 125 is going to be way too small for me but o well it will be fun. (i'm 6'2 180 pounds)

Better to learn to flog the shit out of a 125 before making the jump to big power. It shouldn't be too hard to NOT ride it like a quad. Just remember to counter-steer on a bike to turn. Some say to push on the side you want steer to, but pulling on the opposite bar is really what happens IMO. Other riders who are more experienced should be able to give you better tips.

Just as what mxbiker told ya. Quads are quite relaxed but hard to ride when there are some ruts. (bad suspension) so in that way i would say bike is better if you dont wanna hurt your back cause of a bad suspension. And of that leaning thats just getting used to it. First year i was a real goon and always struggling on how to sit good on a bike and really wanted my quad back. But when you get better at riding and get better results youll be happy that your riding a dirtbike.
