-It's overall a lighter system. The shock itself is heavier, but when you take out the linkage, it's lighter.
-You get a straighter shot from the motor to the exhaust because you don't have to wrap around the shock system as much. This is what makes the KTM 2 strokes so much faster than the others. Think of what could be done with the 2010-11 YZ450F exhaust system - super straight shot for the exhaust!

I can only think of disadvantages when it comes to PDS.
Even if the shock is lighter than a shock and linkage set up, isn't not by much, and is a huge disadvantage because the weight is up so much higher on the bike.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the KTM PDS shock mounted to the right side of the swingarm? Thus making it directly in the way of where the Japanese bikes route their exhaust?
