Notice how they posted other upload sites, like attention isn't going to be brought to those sites now...

I won't miss them. I have to send takedown notices to them all the time for the exact same file. They don't even ban the pirates that upload it.

I'm not in favor of SOPA BTW. Instead of SOPA I'd like to see the DMCA repealed. It would be awesome to see the pirates get what they've been asking for only to realize that the DMCA's safe harbor provision was the only thing protecting the pirate sites that they love so much. Plus I want it to be legal to unlock an XBox or cell phone or whatever other gadgets I legally own.

Totally understandable on your position JLV.
I agree in that a reform is better than SOPA.
However, the supreme court ruled that as far as iPods and iPhones, jailbreaking is legal, as long as the user understands the risk.

Anonymous is just pissy because they can't get their porn.

You want to know what I don't understand? The distinctive disconnect between virtual and physical business owners regarding illegal activities.

When a shop owner owns a store, it is his duty to make sure that their business is working legally. For example, their employees aren't dealing drugs out back, stealing out of the register, tax evasion, having proper environmental laws and regulations up to date, etc.

Why not apply the same to an internet business? If a physical business is conducting illegally, they are shut down/fined/investigated, and if applicable, fixed. Why don't we apply the same rules to the internet? Why does a website like megaupload get a free pass because "the users did it." Why not employ more employees (yay, create jobs!) to get rid of, and ban pirates, and honor those take down notices, as wel as taking initiative on their own, like JLV had said was the issue.

You guys are getting mad over shit that should be dealt with on the local level. They have the ability to stop illegal activity, they choose not to. That's like me running a bar and having people deal cocaine in the bathroom. It's my problem, as well as the dealer and the consumer.

Sorry for the double post.
Technically it's not day one. SOPA isn't passed into law, or close to it. This was done under previous legislation unrelated to SOPA or PIPA.

You do realize that the guys arrested were arrested for copyright and money laundering on a massive scale, correct? It's warranted.

As a criminology student, working on internships with the FBI, CIA, DoHS, and local and state agencies, I really hope you can change your opinion on our Agencies. What the congress does may not be what many Agencies want, but they serve this country to protect it's citizens and obey federal law, regardless of personal opinion. Without these agents, you life in Arizona would suck. The federal government has done more than you will ever understand in preventing and confining what is Mexican drugs, and preserving your right to be able to express your views.

I've kinda read about it and what not but im not 100% sure about it all,

But Couldn't they shut down MXS? If it goes through.

If they "think" a site is "enabling" illegal content they can shut them down?

Its a shity as fuck way to look at it, but i could actually happen though if understand this right?
