I hate hipsters. Here's what I posted on Facebook:

Kony 2012 has made me think about how hypocritical our society is. We have the entirety of social networking up in arms about how Kony is still in power, and these are the same people who are against being the world's police, and opposed the actions we brought against Iraq, and chasing Saddam Hussein, saying we have no right to send US troops in to intervene in foreign affairs we have no vested interest in. I'm all for sending some SEALs in there and killing this moron, but I'd expect some consistent rhetoric. Apparently all you need is a catchy video, with cool editing, crowds of people with banners, and some dubstep and everyone wants to be a hipster savior. Facebook, practice what you preach.

That being said, I've probably done way more research on this topic than all of you, and I've only spent a week studying the guy, but he's basically powerless. He fled Uganda, He's in the DRC most likely now, and the area is relatively peaceful now. I don't know if you noticed, but the issue with Jacob was from 2003, does that mean time heals tragedy? No, but the fact is, this guy is the #1 criminal in the world, he can't do much.

No, he's not. He's pretty damn ignorant.

Realistically, there isn't much that any one of us can do, unless you want to joint he peace corps, or go over there on your own and start helping. Fact is, to get rid of a warlord in Africa, it's not as easy as it may seem. There is way more logistics to it than saying "That part of the world is fucked."

If I were in command of any sort of group of people over there, the only thing I would be able to do is help the people directly affected, by giving them aid in medical, food, shelter, etc. Beyond that really is digging way to far into their own society and culture to make a change. It's hard enough to fix our own ghettos, let alone a society on a obscure piece of land that none of us understand, let alone have studied. To root out the LRA, and all of the other radical groups, takes way more than just being a hipster and posting a video.

This shit really pisses me off. Now people all of the sudden are up in arms about a guy who made children soldiers. Yes, it's terrible, but look around over there, 300,000 people died because of the Janjaweed in the same timeframe this happened, and no first world country helped.

Look around in Africa:

All of these countries have had child soldiers fighting within their borders: Sierra Leone, Chad, Somalia (200,000 children...), Rwanda, CAR, DRC, Sudan with the Darfur conflict, Zimbabawe.

This is way bigger of an issue than anyone understands, and it's cultural, not criminal. Lets be clear, I'm not defending their actions either.
