Stones/Mud + Aluminium Frame = Yuck How to clean?

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Stones/Mud + Aluminium Frame = Yuck How to clean?

Post by Jonee589 »

After I ride I get this shit all over my frame and engine and it's bloody annoying. The only way I can get it off is to scrub the bananas out of it with a scotch brite pad and some Jif, but that only works for the areas I can get the scotch pad into. I'm sure heaps of people have this problem, how do you get it off?

Doesn't work haha, I have a super high pressure washer and I even soak truckwash on it for 20 minutes. ;)

Never had this problem and I ride in rocky sand, sand, soil, mud... rocks... I always pressure wash my bike. Our pressure washer is 2800psi.

Maybe my pressure cleaner isn't as powerful as I thought, it's pretty old so maybe its time to get a newy. I thought it was pretty powerful if you put your hand near the nozzle it would feel like a blade going through your hand. I thought that ment it was powerful haha.

2800psi seems a lot, I think ours is about 1500. What brand/model is it?

Are you sure it's not corrosion? What concentration is your truckwash? Neat traffic film remover can be pretty bad for aluminium. A wire brush would probably do the trick, it would also take the top oxide layer off your aluminium making it all shiny for a bit but it'll soon come back. If you have a brass wire brush use that as that will avoid scratching more than you want off.

Yeah, I don't think it's corrosion the truck wash is pretty tame I don't think that would be the issue. When you run your fingers over it, it is bumpy

Wash it right after you ride and this wont happen,

Every time you leave your bike unwashed for even a day.. this happens way more..

Pressure washing it straight away is really the best way, otherwise u need to use emery/scotch/ etc

Thanks, that might make me motivated to wash it when I get home from riding.
