Good laptop?
Does anyone know a good laptop for under $800 that can handle online races. The laptop I have now can barely handle the lowest settings so I'm saving up for a new one and I want to start trying the online races.

Re: Good laptop?
No. There is not a good laptop for around $800. The best way to do it is to buy a PC. An $800 PC can run 40 person races at near max settings @ around 70FPS.

FFS I need to start logging off of my friends Forum account when I use his laptop. But I would like to correct myself. Laptops WILL run a 40 person race, but not smoothly, and not for $800. Laptops possess a very bad price:performance ratio. An $800 laptop will perform about 1/4 as well as an $800 desktop that you built yourself. The reason you pay so much for laptops is because of their mobility. I will do anything I can to steer you away from buying a laptop as a primary machine, because I went through the laptop stage as well. It was a big waste of $700. The only laptops I can recommend for MXS are the $1200+ ASUS, MSI, (and I think Gigabyte make one as well) gaming laptops. DO NOT get an Alienware. They are owned by dell and are overpriced. They also have a terrible customer service.

This laptop has a good review for gaming at its price xps%2015&sa=N&biw=320&bih=416&ei=vzAKUMPNDcX50gGjiozGAw&ved=0CJABEPMCMAQ#hsec:overview
I don't know a lot about computers but do you guys think those specs would be decent for mxs?

Re: Good laptop?
Post a link... MXS is mostly CPU intensive. Without a good CPU the computer will struggle to perform in MXS. But keep in mind that laptops don't have good cooling, so a good CPU in a laptop is far fetched and far between.

I wouldn't go near it knowing its a dell. They are not by any means good for gaming. Alienware is there premier line of "Gaming machines", but even they don't perform nearly as well as a computer you could build for the same price.

Re: Good laptop?
I don't need it to run really high settings just as long as I can run online races without lag would be fine

I ran Washougal on my $700 AU Dell Laptop with 40 players. I ran stock models and managed to keep the frame rate above 60 fps easily.

Re: Good laptop?
I'm talking from my own experience DJ. I had a $700 gateway laptop and couldn't run SX with any more than 15 people @ near lowest settings. All I've heard about Dell is bad bad bad. I'm sure some people enjoy their dell computers, but from what I've heard about their customer support, I would not buy one myself. It's great that you are satisfied with your laptop DJ. I'm sure it's serving you well. One of my earlier posts stated that a Laptop is not a suitable primary machine for MXS.

Thanks. Right now I use my dad's iMac for these races and Crossover sucks. Hoping to get my own laptop soon.

Re: Good laptop?
Sorry for DP, but I can't find one with that graphics card. The only ones I see on Dell.com have Intel HD Graphics 3000. Also that one is $549 USD. Does that sound about right comparing with AU?
