Computer Problems...

Post by BrutalMX »

Hate to make a thread for this, but its gotten to a point where idk what else to do. It all began a couple weeks back...was palying Sim online and my PC froze for a few minutes and went to a blue screen, giving me this error: KERNEL IN_PAGE ERROR...... 0x0000007A

So after researching I found it can either be a hardware issue or possibly some buggy driver. I've done every test there is: memtest, chkdsk through cmd prompt, etc and all without any hiccups. After further research, I leanred my BIOS firmware was out of date so I updated it.

Ever since updating the BIOS, I havent seen any blue screen. But, it was still freezing up and restarting by itself, no errors or blue screens. I was pisssssed...read somewhere it may be bad RAM. Only had 4GB so I said hey why not, get 8GB. Just installed that about a week ago.

Now...the computer doesnt restart. It just freezes and will eventually come back....but theres one weird thing I noticed....

When playing Sim in trial mode, I can ride forever. When I join a server, I noticed that when it DOES freeze/stutter for those short moments, my Ping's Offset is SKYHIGH.

Does anyone know what can be causing this?

Specs:
AMD FX-4100
AMD Radeon 6850
8GB corsair RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

After doing all of those things and it still happening, I would take out the extra 4GB you installed and see if it's still happening. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but it would at least rule out that.

I bought two new 4gb sticks...so youre saying take both of them out and replace them with my old 2gb sticks?

I really don't think it's the ram. At first I though it was my hdd but after it only doing it online, it gets me thinking...aghhhh

Oh, I thought you mean you had 4GB, then added 4 more (2x2GB). Hmmm, does it happen in other games or with AI? Have you been looking at temps while playing?

I can play BF3 campaign mode no problem...MXsim in trial/race mode no problem. Its only when I'm actually ONLINE...

And no, I acatually havent even thought about it. Whats an easy way to check while in-game? This is getting me sooo mad haha...this custom build isnt even a year old and its giving me problems. IDK where to start with troubleshooting

If you can play BF3 and it isn't happening then I don't think it's temperature. Can you play BF3 online and will it do it?

Nah, BF3 actually causes it freeze up pretty quickly. IT freezes up, but I can still move my mouse. If I dont click anything, nothing will happen. But when I click the Windows button...it usually minimizes the game and goes to the dekstop and opens the start menu.

Same with Sim...if I press the Windows button, it takes me to dekstop with the game minimized. When I re-open the minimized game, my offset is SUPER HIGH.

Hmmm, lets try just looking at the temps just to make sure. Use this program (it has a standalone version) http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html. Start it up, then go play sim until it freezes up. Get out of the game and check to see what the max values are. CPU cores shouldn't go over 60-65 ish, and GPU shouldn't go over 80 (Celsius).

So do you mean BF3 online causes it to freeze up quickly, or just the game in general? If it's only online, I would find that really weird. I don't know why the connection would be causing the whole game to freeze... Jlv?

Looks like my CPU is pretty damn hot...would dust buildup be a problem? When I opened up the case I noticed there was some dust around the top of the CPU. I just didnt wanna blow it out..I figured I would need an air compressor to do it effectively. Any suggestions on getting rid of dust?

Take a look at this...
I was riding around in warmup and every few seconds the game freezes for a second or two and everytime it would come back, the offset would be higher.

I went to take a screenshot, and the same happened. Game would freeze for a split second and my offset would be higher. I seriously dont understand...

I havent experienced a BSOD since updating my BIOS, so I think I fixed that. But now it seems like my either my ethernet input is screwed or something...Can ANYONE help me?

DP,
But im reading everywhere and it seems 71 degrees is the maximum for my CPU...oh no. What should I do?

It honestly doesnt feel like a CPU problem. I still get 100-120fps in Sim, but now it just keeps cutting out on me. JLV WHERE ARE YOUU

What I quickly read at overclock.net, that cpu's tjmax is around the 80C mark, while it isn't the temperature where your chip will fry, going past it will make your cpu throttle its speed in an effort to lower the temperature and prevent damage to itself.
First thing you need to do is fix the cpu temperature issue and see if you still have problems. Could very well be it's something else, but that cpu temp needs to come down.

Completely aside, but man that thing runs cool compared to intel cpus!
My Q9550 tjmax is somewhere around the 95-100C mark.

It'll freeze like that when you take a screenshot, that's normal. Clear out the dust and if you have some thermal paste try taking off the heatsink and cleaning off the old paste, then put the sink back on again.

Well, it seems like its more of an internet issue more than a CPU issue. I can play Sim all day on Trial/Race mode, but right when I get in a race my offset goes skyhigh.

It sounds an awful like my magic man issue. When I skipped out my offset would rise but it would comeback down and I don't think i ever froze so it sounds little more severe than mine.
