New computer today! Don't know what t get...

Post by CR250R »

Well yesterday my computer died peacefully in its sleep... And I need a new one, and I did some research and this is the best thing I could come up with http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail ... 8786217198

How well will this run mxs and other games like half life (I already have low expectations for it for games like far cry or cod)

Are there any suggestions for computers under $500?

Rule number 1 is to never buy anything PC related from BestBuy.

Try CyberPower or iBuyPower if you want a prebuilt PC. I've checked there component prices plenty of times to know they make money off of extra's like peripherials and accessories. What they make off of the actual PC isn't as severe as other websites.

The question wasn't about the store... it was about the pc... I just wan't to know if those specs are good just so i can get a base idea of what to get...

I don't see any specs, other than 8GB of RAM. Chances are that a pre-built PC for under $500 from Best Buy isn't going to perform very well for games.

A8 CPU... no.
8GB Ram, yeah thats good.
7470 isn't bad.

My guess is they are keeping the price down with the A8. The card isn't bad and Ram is pretty cheap, they are basically selling you the 2011 models. You can do better on other places for the same price and not get shafted.

Just took a quick glance over at the website I suggested. $518
http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/AMD_FX_4 ... nfigurator

AZZA Solaris Case
AMD FX-4100/Fan Heatsink
8GB RAM
Radeon 6450 1GB
400Watt PSU (you could go 300watt and drop the price to $498 but its your call.)
Free upgrade to 2TB HD

While the 4100 isn't the worst processor I think a gpu upgrade would be necessary with that build. Makes me realize how much cheaper it is to do it yourself considering the items you listed, puma, are fairly low when bought separately
