Pit bike or Dirt bike?

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Pit bike or Dirt bike?

Post by Voutare »

I just went out and got a new 2003 Saab 93, for 7 grand. So, I now have about -$5000.

I really, really want a dirtbike (used 250f, 2001-3 range), for about $2000, and that's still much.

I also want a pit bike to fool around on, probably a SDG 107 or 125, for about 600-800, depending on the deal.

So, what one should I get, I would take a dirtbike over a pitbike every day, but if I skimp out and buy the pit bike, do you think I'd have that much fun riding it solely?

Have you considered a two stroke? A five year old 250f is most likely going to need an $1000 rebuild. I bet you can find a pretty good two stroke for under 2k and just put in a new piston and ring.

I thought about it, but I rode a 06 KX 250F, and a 07 RM125, and I prefered the 250F alot more. It's got more even power, and I feel like it's all there coming out of the turns more than the two stroke.

But I also have nowhere to ride if I have a full size bike. We have a track, but my friends are getting pit bikes, and they want to make a mini-supercross track. That's another factor. I could make a track, but the one we have is done my a ex-pro rider (friends uncle, Chad Sharrow).

Basically, they want to take all the dirt on the track, and put it in one place to make a supercross, so the rest will be jumpless. :/

i think pit bikes are a lot of fun if they run right, have a spot to ride them, and have someone to ride with. Riding up and down the street isnt really that great but other wise they can be really fun

I don't even live on a paved road. :D

Way in the backwoods, so I have a lot of land to ride them.

I was racing 125B on big bikes and started racing pitbikes. IMO, they are way more fun, so I quit racing my big bike and I'm pretty much just do the pitbike thing.

If it were up to me, I'd say go for a pitbike.
Things you want to make sure of before you do though:
Make sure you either get a 110 sized bike so you can ride it on big bike tracks or have a pitbike track nearby. Stock (and some mod) 50 sized bikes are a pain to ride on anyhting other than a pitbike specific track.
If you're buying a chinese bike, get a filter, extra levers, and bars right away. The factory ones suck on almost all bikes.
Get your friends interested in it. It sucks riding a kid's bike alone.

i think you should buy a two stroke, cuz its mutch cheaper. if u aint gonna race serious its just stupid to buy a expensive 4 stroke. The parts are so mutch more expensive on a 4 stroke then a 2 stroke.. just my opinion

Peace out / enzopersson.

My plan was to race if I got a big bike, and if I got a pitbike I'd still race.
