rFactor

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

rFactor

Post by Mittocs »

Alright, so im rather bored today and I have the urge to play a driving sim so I was looking into rFactor. I'm sure there's a few people on here that have played it before and was wondering if it was worth it? and maybe you could help me out a bit.

LiveForSpeed is better in my opinion but of course each to their own. I am also a little biased because probably 99% of the LFS community hates RF.

I just enjoy the physics of LFS better. It has tire deformation, so the tires actually flex like in real life. The tires can heat up if you're drifting them too much. The tires blow out eventually. It's been several years since trying RF though, so I'm sure it has improved big time also. I would try both if you're just looking to try out some good racing sims.

rFactor offers tire deformation too, just not graphically. LFS is not moddable, so you get what the developers give you. rFactor has endless mods, from F1 to off road trucks and everything in between and then some. Both are becoming quite dated, there's a new version of rFactor in the tubes I'd hold onto my money until that came out, maybe later this summer. Either would be a fine choice for a casual driver.

There's always iRacing, not so much for the casual racer though. $20 a month, comes with some base content but you'll have to buy more if you want to move up the ranks. The base content in iRacing is plenty to keep you busy for the first month. Wheel and pedals required though. By far the best sim on the market right now, with plenty more to offer in the future. If anyone is interested in trying iRacing let me know I have a code for a 3 month subscription for only $25, I can't use it since I'm a current subscriber.

Ah, that sounds good. I'd love to try it but unfortunately I can't afford to play a game like that at the minute due to the loss of my job :/ What kind of racing wheels are good (that i could use both with my xbox 360 and pc because i want to have one for when dirt 2 comes out)

I'm not sure about 360, or if there are any decent wheels for it. I'd imagine w/ the wireless adapter thingy any 360 wheel should work. Check and see if Logitec makes a 360 wheel, that would be your best bet for quality.

Edit:

A quick search found this wheel.

I have the XBOX 360 Racing Wheel from Microsoft. It is around $100. It has force feedback when plugged in. I really like it, but am not sure if it works for PC.
