Article On Reflex
OK here's the article... http://www.totalvideogames.com/MX-vs-AT ... 14112.html
Over all a good interview...track deformation/new engine/physics and total rider control..brilliant...sounds amazing...sooooo why am left feeling worried? I'll tell you why in this little rant im about to embark upon...
Maybe I'm a little one sided and bias because I race motocross, but both Unleashed and Untamed left me feeling disappointed with the National series. I watch the AMA National series over here in the UK and drool over your tracks. Unadilla, Southwick, Washougal etc, they are AMAZING! Why don't the guys at Rainbow fork out the cash and get the licenses to the AMA Outdoor Series??! And Indoor for that matter. As a racer you dream of racing on tracks you see the pro's on. Here's a strange comparison but, Its like Fifa 09 replacing "The Premiership" with I don't know...erm, "The Wonder League," having no real stadiums, playing on a small dirt field with jumpers for goal posts, with a bloody tennis ball. Its just not football. As a consumer you want a game to enable you live out YOUR dreams, NOT jump down the side of a mountain/over a bridge/river and land it. The tracks on Untamed where that ridiculous that one minute I'd be really into it, totally immersed into the gameplay and then I'd jump over a canyon and suddenly be smashed back into reality thinking, WTF was that?! Ive never seen that in a motocross track. The same thing would happen when I put the power on and heard about 20 up shifts? All the bikes on Untamed have an infinite amount of gears, not 5 or 6 like the normal bikes. Sort the engine sounds out for gods sake. (Totally different rant there), It takes the immersion totally out of the game, and when that happens to any game regardless of genre IMO its failed. Anyway my point is, Rainbow please for the love of God get your hands into your pockets, find the cash, and get the licenses to some real MX/SX series. If the tracks are as wacky and unreal as Untamed, I don't care how good the physics are or that theres track deformation, I for one will not be wasting £50.
I'm done.

Agreed.
MX vs ATV games will always suck. The people that make them have obviously never touched a dirtbike, let alone raced one.
The physics are ridiculous, the bike sounds are a joke, the preload system is strait up retarded, and its not fun to play.
They dont even have real bike brands for god's sake!!!

Re: Article On Reflex
actually alot, and i mean ALOT of people. including myself love MVA. if you think it sucks that just your opinion though and i respect that.
but alot of people who work for thq and rainbow do infact ride or race.
as for the physics, if you read the entire article, they want the physics to be realsitic...yet not simulator because they want everyone to be able to play it, it needs to be "user freindly" should i say?
the bike sounds...well i even have to admit the guy upshifts about 8million times. but the sound of the bike itself is more on the realistic side. if they could incorperate sounds that are just as realistic and go with the speed and rpm's and stuff like mx sim, then were good.
yes i think the preaload system is gay as hell too lol. BUT, if you read the article they are getting rid of the preload system and you have to use your body weight and move around on the bike and stuff, so hows that for kickass?!
as for the bike brands, that didnt really bother me because the bike models were exactly the same as the brand. like the "storm 250" that bike in untamed looks exactly like a 450, or 250 honda. so i dont really care but thats just my opinion but i respect those who disagree because i would also certainly love to have and actual honda with some nice STOCK graphics.
idk...i really want this game and i have faith in thq. keep it comin guys!

Well, maybe i was a little harsh......
NAH!!!! I stand by what i said.
But i give their modelers credit though, the game looks fantastic, but the physics are a joke.

Really? Millions of people will beg to differ. Maybe they aren't exactly what you want, but they are really solid MX games. We do our best to have everyone enjoy the games.DJ_Diehl#777 wrote:Agreed.

Hmm, I held a pro license for a couple of years, raced Lorettas multiple times as an amateur, and have made Arenacross mains. I might not be Ricky Carmichael but I think I've touched a bike once or twice.DJ_Diehl#777 wrote:The people that make them have obviously never touched a dirtbike, let alone raced one.
Personal opinion. Things can always be improved, but Reflex is a completely new engine, something that hasn't been done since ATV Off Road Fury came out on PS1. Sure it'd had updates since then, but it shared a similar base, this thing is brand spankin new! As far as being fun to play, again, millions of people will beg to differ.DJ_Diehl#777 wrote:The physics are ridiculous, the bike sounds are a joke, the preload system is strait up retarded, and its not fun to play.
Can you tell the difference between the bikes in Untamed and the real bikes other than the name it says in the game menu? They look more real than the bikes that came with MX Simulator...DJ_Diehl#777 wrote:They dont even have real bike brands for god's sake!!!

Perhaps i got a little too excited when i said that, i do apologize for that comment, and i will admitt that i had countless hours of fun playing MX Unleashed when it came out.Checkerz448 wrote:Really? But i believe "MX Untamed" was a huge step backwards for the franchise and i stand behind my other criticism. I droped sixty bucks for a game with no licensed bikes, no authentic tracks, no track editor,
and a physics engine that left me screaming at my T.V.
Who knows, maybe Reflex will prove me wrong, but untill then i will stand by my other comments 100%.

Re: Article On Reflex
Just like always, I give it a fair shot until the final game is released and I actually play it. Crazy idea hit me though when reading that. Why don't you make the full out simulator then, for all the others who you think can't play a simulator(take kyler or dw434, both are around 11) and and dumb it down with handicaps(one button brakes, front end traction, bored out bikes). Throwing it out there but everyone is competitive, it doesn't matter if the game is hard or not people will strive to get better at it.

Re: Article On Reflex
i agree with you, if anyone has played the old nes games they where way harder and more difficult then games today. Untamed was realsed to early they worked more on it before they realsed it would have been a great game, but they had to make the holiday dead line. Reflex looks like a great game but not a perfect game. We all have to except the fact we will never get a perfect motocross game unless the whole world comes to its sense and everybody starts riding dirtbike or JLV wins the lottery
THAT'S IT
THAT'S IT

Re: Article On Reflex
I don't think that MX Vs ATV games suck, just that they always come so close to making a very very good game , but fall at the final hurdle. Unleashed was awesome for its time, but the National tracks Rainbow created were rubbish. I've recently bought Unleashed for PC, because back then i had it for PS2 and some of the user generated tracks on there are awesome! Why is it not feasible for Rainbow to create tracks which appeal to the MX fans? I know and understand that they are trying to keep the game open to everyone, but imo if the tracks are realistic it wont put any none MX fans off at all. Untamed tracks came a little closer to the real thing but the physics were that bad i couldn't play them without throwing my pad across the room at some point. Don't get me wrong I've played both these game for hours, but I think that Rainbow should give something back to the MX fans that have been frustrated by these issues. I mean, most MX games have been that frustrating that it took JLV to make his own game, obviously along with many other people, and its much better! That speaks volumes about the games that are being currently released by these big developers. I desperately want Reflex to be awesome and prove me wrong, but it needs realistic tracks just as much as "track deformation."

Re: Article On Reflex
the tracks in untamed were pretty awesome to me, im sure on top of the terrian deformation, they will for sure make more realistic tracks. i mean if the track is realistic and fun as hell, why bich about it not being a replica?
and who gives a fuck about the bikes being "actual brands" i mean really. for one it probably costs a lot of money to have liscenced bikes in there. but the bike models were exactly the same as the brand, just with a different name. the bike modles in mx simulator arent the best either, but nobody complains.
idk but i stand with checkerz on this one. he really knows what hes talking about
also i have one more thing to say.
Just because the game isnt a fucking simulator dosent mean its not fun. for fuck sake some of you people are so bichy about physics. its a game for one, and for two. theres alot of things in mx simulators physics that i absolutely hate, but i still play it because its fun. But really it dosent have to be a "simulator" to be fun. My god think outside the fucken box

my one complaint is it not being for ps2 =[ xbox 360 is expensive . the one thing i like about mx sim best is multi player so i hope reflex has multi player . and real bike sounds . if it sounded real i would sit there for hours just listening to it .

What? There were only 3 good tracks there and all were MX, none of the SX were fun.WhMx179 wrote: i mean if the track is realistic and fun as hell, why bich about it not being a replica?
You are fine with a motocross game without motocross bikes?WhMx179 wrote:and who gives a fuck about the bikes being "actual brands" i mean really.
Another thing, easy on the language, we get your point better if you are calm and reasonable about it. Not just getting upset and dropping the F-Bomb every other word.
