Cameron Sinclair seriously injured in Madrid

Australian Freestyle star Cameron Sinclair has been seriously injured during the Red Bull X Fighter event in Madrid Spain.
Cameron under rotated a double flip and took a massive hit.

He was rushed to Hospital where he was induced into a coma and then was then rushed into surgery.

Details are a bit sketchy but he suffered severe internal bleeding from a lacerated liver, Surgeons went in to what remained of his liver through and artery in his leg to stem the bleeding. He has also suffered some bruising on the brain. Doctors don't know the extent of any damage at the moment. He also suffered a very bad break to his shoulder.

Mick Sinclair, Cameron's brother said he will remain in a critical condition for at least the next 14 hours and that he was as stable as he could be at this time.

MELBOURNE freestyle motocross rider Cam Sinclair is lucky to be alive after crashing during his signature double backflip in Spain.

The adrenaline junkie was placed in an induced coma with a ruptured liver and bruising on the brain after nosediving into the ramp in the final of the Red Bull X Fighters event on Saturday.

Sinclair's mother Julia and brother Nick have rushed from their home in Melbourne's south to be by the 25-year-old's side.

His manager, Adam Bailey, said Sinclair had woken from his coma and appeared to have dodged serious spinal or brain damage.

"They've asked him to move his arms and legs and he could, so that was great," he said.

"He's still in and out of consciousness, but starting to react to being spoken to."

Sinclair was pushing hard for his first X Fighters win when he under-rotated his signature move and slammed into the ramp.

The champion rider had performed the jump dozens of times before, landing it successfully only a day earlier.

He is one of only three people to have successfully performed the stunt, dazzling Australian audiences earlier this year during the Crusty Demons tour.

Mr Bailey said Sinclair was still unable to talk after smashing his windpipe into the handlebars.

"There was a lot of blood in his mouth and he was bleeding from the ears when they first got to him," he said. "He wasn't in too good a shape and they had to do emergency surgery to clean up his liver."

A competitive racer for 18 years, Sinclair switched to freestyle motocross several years ago.

Last May, while practicing at his personal track at Tooradin, Sinclair told the Herald Sun he was a "cautious" rider.

"A lot of the guys in the scene are nuts," he said.

"They see it and go for it and sometimes get unstuck. I see it – and plod along."

Sinclair's injuries are likely to keep him off the pro-circuit for up to a year.

"His fiancee said she told him there would be no more motorcycle riding from now on and he made a frowny face," Mr Bailey said.

"He didn't like the sound of that. By the sound of things, he's already thinking about riding again."
