14 years old and riding a 450f?

Question. i havnt started riding motocross in real life. My dad raced motocross and he told me that because of my size i need a 450. im im 5,8 tall and 185 pounds and im 14 years old(nearly 15). That a good idea because the power of the bike and all for a begginer is kinda frightening to think. should i ride 250f or a 450 sounds good?

A 450 is probably not a good idea if you've never ridden before, regardless of your size. Get a trail bike or something to learn.

No idea why you should get a trial bike when to start ride motocross, 250f or 250 two stroke is the best choise!

I got a 450 when I was 14. I was probably 6'0" and 260 lbs and I wasn't scared by it, but I also had 10 years of riding under my belt already. A 450 is definitely not a good beginner's bike. I had never ridden a 250 two stroke before I got my 450, but I rode one afterwards and ended up getting one the following week, so I would advise you to either get a 250f or a 250 two stroke.

The reason I say to get a trail bike is because they are perfect for beginners. You don't take a beginners' motorcycle safety course on a Hayabusa. Riding a 450 with 0 motorcycle experience is just asking to be killed.

yeah thanks checkerz, i told my dad that it would be better to geta 250f, but he still said a 450 would be lot better for my size. lol

Show him Tyler Bowers and then show him that he won Las Vegas SX on a 250f. Motor size means nothing for size and weight if you have no idea to use it, you could be 100 or 300 pounds and it will be the same result.

I can't believe people are suggesting a 250 2t would be simpler to learn on than a 450

You absolutely do not need a 450, hell im 6ft 5 and 190 pounds and I rode a 250f up until 2012 when I switched over to a ktm 300. I even rode on a 280 four stroke the year after in 2013 before going back to the 300 this year. I can tell you that the 250f as well as the 280 had PLENTY of power for me to ride fast, and im a really fast B. The only reason im on the 300 again is because the 4 stroke was a nightmare with engine problems. But speed wise I was just as good on either one, even with the big power difference. If I were you I would look into getting a good 250f, preferably a reliable brand like yamaha which won't break down. You could always go the 2 stroke route as well and get a 125 or a 250 2 stroke, which would be bullet proof and never have problems. My dad had a 450 for a while and it was a engine breaking nightmare.

What?! That's crap, 185 pounds isn't even that heavy, I weigh more than that (190) and I have no issue on any size bike, excluding 125s, but that's only because im too big in general for one (6ft 5).
But for someone who is only 5ft 8 that won't even matter. My dad was over 200 and 6ft 2 back when he had a 250f and had some of his best years on it, he actually didn't like a 450 at all when he rode one for a while.

That's really not good idea to hop straight on 450. I started riding half a year ago (I'm 16, 67kg and 1,80m with decent strenght) and I'd say 450 is not the way to go in the beginning. The bike is heavy, mine is moded aswell so that's even worse. You just never learn the basic stuff because you simply don't know and can't handle that everything 450 gives you. 250 4stroke is the way to go man.
