MX Simulator

Ok so I used to have one of the best gaming PC's out. Sadly, I bought it already put together , so I never actually learned anything about what each part was truly for, and why it ran so great etc.

So I am in the market to build a PC on budget not really sure what that budget is atm. It will damn sure not be another $3,000 gaming PC. However, I do want a computer that will run MXS quite well, as well handle 4k footage, as well very Editing intensive. I am kind of nervous about going through Newegg just buying everything that looks good lol. I want to avoid bottlenecking. So I want to get some feedback, and suggestions about building a gaming PC less than $1,000

Before someone asks I do not own the super gaming computer I used to own anymore as my ex-wife still has it, and I am just counting it as a lost cause for the time being.

I know this is a pretty good place to ask with all the PC nerds so if you have a moment please toss some suggestions my way!

Also obviously with the editing process comes Render times. So if you can keep that in mind with suggestions. I have a lot of work coming my way with Video editing, After Effects oriented so not really wanting something that will struggle with Previews/Rendering

Less than $1,000 build will be hard to run 4k resolution I believe. For 4k resolution you will need a 980 (well not need but it would definitely run it) is around $550 and that already half of your budget. Plus you would need a nice processor for your editing needs (for fast rendering) that would be about 300 dollars. So for 2 parts of your build you are already very close to your budget. Sh*t if you do a $3,000 build you will have a pc that will last your for like 8 years lol. But for what your budget is, I don;t think you will be impressed when it comes to 4k res.

Sorry I should've been better at explaining the 4k. I meant shooting 4k with my camera and smoothly previewing. Not meaning 4k screen. I won't be shooting much in 4k though so maybe it's not a necessity atm.

I agree mostly with ^^^ but:

Skip the Corsair PSU, EVGA is just as good and cheaper

And again with the memory, Gskill is just as good and you save $20 (actually I prefer it over Corsair)

The Asus Strix GTX 970 is a nice card because it hardly runs the fans so it is nice and quiet. Its also on sale right now.

Here is what I came up with, by the time you add an optical drive and OS you are at $1300. I think it would be worth it to save up a little longer, this system would be very nice. You could remove the SSD but having your OS and software on it will change your life, the WD Green would be a good drive for video footage and you can adjust the size depending on your needs.

Curious on what yalls opinions are of this build?

I'm not a huge fan of the Video card. Amd cards run pretty hot and expensive for what it offers imo. (someone will say different.) Instead of that 290, I would most definitely put a 970. From the benchmarks I have seen it out performs the 290, runs cooler, and is more power efficient. But it's all up to you. Haven't read about a xeon so can't help you out there.

The Xeon is a neat idea but has anyone done the math on that build? Once you throw 16gb of RAM in it (you will want it) and a 256gb SSD no way it is not $1200-1300.

Its actually works out quite well tho, would outperform the I5 by a good margin but no overclocking. Good way to go if you wouldn't overclock anyways tho.

A Xeon can game and with games relying more and more on GPU I don't see it causing a bottleneck so that really is a interesting idea. I want to recommend a 970 but because of the #ramgate and you needing all the VRAM you can get it makes it a tough call. I still believe the 970 is the best option for you at this price point but if you could take out a loan for the 980 it would be the best for you.

The Xeon, I do agree with. RAM, cheapest with a heatspreader (most of the time ADATA or GSKILL). Motherboard, trusted name $100-125, ATX or mATX depending on the size case you want. GPU, 970, cheapest open air cooler. PSU, EVGA 550w or more. Storage, highly recommend a minimum of 120GB SSD, 240-256 being sweetspot, and #TB HDD WD or Seagate, whatever you feel you need. Case, NZXT or Corsair.

Do you need a monitor/mouse/keyboard aswell?

Actually, because it does matter, what programs do you use to render? Some programs work better with AMD or nVidia because of what they were developed with.

I use After Effects, Premiere Pro, Cinema 4d for any rendering needs. I am not sure which each program prefers if any.

After some research, Adobe uses CUDA and Cinema 4D uses CPU so Intel/nVidia is the right choice for you.

However, the sub $1000 is a tough one to hit being a work first, game second PC. Prices right now are not good, maybe there will be a Spring sale that will knock atleast 20% off most but the system you could really use is just out of reach.
