2016 REAL AMA GNC Number Quest/Standings
Real 2016 GNC Numbers (After Unadilla)
I included the points and GNC position for most people except for riders with a career number who aren't near the top 10 to make it clear who's in the top 10 and who might be getting career numbers this year. I only went up to 42 because there is a lot the numbers are contingent on but still calculated this since I'm sick and bored. Hopefully the list makes sense to everyone. Enjoy!
TOP 10
5* Dungey - 790
25* Musquin - 608
6* Martin - 559
4* Baggett - 498
94* Roczen - 487
21**? Anderson - 442 Would earn career number
51* Barcia - 433
3* Tomac - 430
20* Tickle - 420
23**? Savatgy - 417 Would earn career number
16* Osborne - 394
10* Brayton
11* Chisolm
12* Weimer
13 Most likely skipped
14* Seely
15* Wilson
18* Millsaps
19* Bogle
22* Reed
24* Metcalfe
26 Nelson - 372
27* Wey
28 A. Martin - 372
17* Webb - 363
29* Short
30 Peick - 358
31 Plessinger - 344
32 Mcelrath - 342
33* Grant
34 Hampshire - 289
35 Nicoletti - 275
36 Bisceglia - 261
37 Pourcel - 247
38 Smith - 213
39 Oldenburg - 211
40 Alldredge - 209
41* Canard
42 Noren - 191
I excluded..
2 OPEN
7* Stewart
8 OPEN
9 OPEN
..since I was just focusing on who was top 10 in points.
Some main points:
- It looks like as long as neither of them shit the bed, Anderson and Savatgy (with a great performance at Unadilla) should get to select 2 digit career numbers.
- This could mean no more numbers in the tens available to be selected or earned assuming nobody selects 13 and it gets skipped
- at this rate every number under 30 could be gone too for people other than top 10
- This list is contingent that the two riders choose 21 and 23 as career numbers, being the lowest available (like 17 and 19 last year)
But this will most likely change, would be cool if anyone had an inside on what Anderson Savatgy might choose.
Hope you all liked this! Did this kinda fast so there might be errors, I will update it for sure after Indiana.

Re: 2016 REAL AMA GNC Number Quest/Standings
I just realized something.
Stewart not scoring 25 points would force him handing over his career number wouldn't it?
On the other hand, Pourcel also got an exception to run 377 this year

Lol I highly doubt they would do that to Stewart, he would probably just quit XD
And as for Pourcel idk if they'll make him run a 2 digit or not but the funny part is that 30 went unused last year because of it

No, there is an exception to the rule for riders who are injured or ineligible to race.scheeve3 wrote:I just realized something.

So any hobo can jump up and grab Villpotos number? Nobody grabbed the number 2 right after McGrath was done right? You should definetly have some big balls to step up and run it. Maybe AC in a couple of years or something?

So just because Anderson won a title he is worthy of the number 2? Nah he isn't.AWood wrote:If you call anyone winning a title a hobo then i guess.Anchor_b wrote:So any hobo can jump up and grab Villpotos number? A regional sx title doesn't earn a single digitAnchor_b wrote:So just because Anderson won a title he is worthy of the number 2? 1. As above, regional SX doesn't earn titles.Anchor_b wrote:So just because Anderson won a title he is worthy of the number 2? 2. Yeah in my opinion anyone who wins a title that earns a number is worthy of any open number. It's only special because there was success on it before. Is Tomac not worthy to run 3 because of what brown did with it. Or you think people cared when dungey got 5 because he may not be like larocco. It's gonna be the same shit with #7 after bubba and people acted the same way about 4 going to bagget after Carmichael. It's a stupid mindset to have about the numbers. You earn a 1 digit, if it's open you pick it.
Anyone winning an outdoor title or a 450sx title is worthy of any 1 digit in my opinion

WARNING: UNPOPULAR OPINION I'd say Villopoto wasn't worthy of 2 after what McGrath was able to do to this sportAnchor_b wrote:So just because Anderson won a title he is worthy of the number 2? Nah he isn't.

And he still isn't? Just want to remind you that MC has said multiple times that the competition RV has battled trough was much much tougher than what he had to deal with himself. Even if you don't like him he has made himself damn worthy of the number2.mxsrider96 wrote:WARNING: UNPOPULAR OPINION I'd say Villopoto wasn't worthy of 2 after what McGrath was able to do to this sportAnchor_b wrote:So just because Anderson won a title he is worthy of the number 2? Villo IMO was worthy, but I think the number should have been retired from the AMA when MC retired, I feel the same way about #4

Re: 2016 REAL AMA GNC Number Quest/Standings
I don't like him, but I acknowledge that he was a great rider. But I'd be saying the same thing about Carmichael, Stewart, Reed, Windham, etc. No one but McGrath is worthy of #2. It absolutely 100% should have been retired. I think #4 probably should have been retired simply because NO ONE will ever do what Carmichael did, and now Baggett has it. Baggett's a wonderful rider, but he is no where near the level that RC was. I do not 100% believe it should've been retired, however, and Carmichael was a better overall rider than McGrath, he just didn't do to this sport what McGrath could. McGrath brought forth and attitude for motocross and supercross alike that no one had ever seen before, which I believe led to Carmichael being able to win all those outdoor championships (10 total including his 125 championship) and all his supercross championships (I believe 7 total if you include 125 titles... may be wrong about that one). If it weren't for McGrath, we wouldn't have dominant riders like RC, JS, RV, RD, ET3, etc.Anchor_b wrote:And he still isn't? Re: 2016 REAL AMA GNC Number Quest/Standings
GNC Numbers updated after Indiana. Still Savatgy and Anderson for career numbers and I put Savatgy at 76 since he used to run 176 as an Am and his rookie year so that's a safe bet. Anderson said 69 on twitter as a joke but I put him at 21 since it's a toss up. 21 looks good on him I think but running 312 as an Amateur we could see 31 or 32 maybe. Also after a great win, Plessinger could grab the newly open 26 from Michael Byrne. Numbers should be finalized around mid september so we'll see then.
