Rm144 Crank, squish and exhaust porting help

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Rm144 Crank, squish and exhaust porting help

Post by Boblob801 »

So I got an rm144 awhile back that was pretty fucked and needed work. So as far as I know, the cylinder is supposedly for a 144 so I would imagine the exhaust has been ported and obviously the crank would have been shaven or the piston would hit it. What I want to know is, how do I actually know if the exhaust has been ported and it's not just like a stock 125? Also, the bike has been running a standard 125 head which would be wrong, yeah? A 144 should have different squish to a 125 for compression ratios. I take it I'll need to have this machined? Does the insert change or do I just mill a few mm's off the head? I need acurate changes, not just yeah just mill it bro. And does anyone know a good jetting, needle setting etc. And is there more to this that I'm not thinking about, thanks.

You have any idea who did the motor work? Or was it a kit?

Typically they would raise/widen the ports for more top end power. Check the squish with the solder method. 125-144 can get away with a smaller squish band than the larger bikes.

What year RM is she? Flat top or domed piston?

No no don't leave me haha. It's a 2008, flat top as far as I know, the new head is stock for the model. Once I check the squish, then what?? What should the gap be?

Make sure you put the cylinder base gasket on when testing. 0.040'' or ~1mm squish band for a 125 stock. Values for squish typically run from 1-2mm. Obviously from factory there is some variance in the manufacturing. I've never messed with squish on any of my bikes never had detonation or needed to make them any faster lol.

So I ended up getting help from Eric and the head came out pretty good. I just have to put it on the bike and then adjust the jetting.
