Political Debate Thread

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Mass myopia if not blindness from the far right. That, or head buried in the sand, or somewhere else. I know Biden is old, but still better than a theocratic, fascist dictatorship.

I agree with you here. The alt right is more Dixiecrat than conservative.

If you think that a coup attempt isn't an impeachable offense, then wtf is? That opinion is way out on the fringes, hence far right. Simple.

It's clear his intention was to install himself as despot. Hard to see anything that would be a bigger betrayal of his oath to defend the constitution than that.

But as far as far right goes, it depends on what you consider "right" to be in this country. Are the founding fathers are far right or do you think Hitler is far right? If left vs right is big government vs limited government the founders are right wing and Hitler is a left wing socialist. If right is rule of law and left is rule of man then again the founders are right and Hitler is left. If right is authoritarian and left is libertarian then it flips and Hitler is far right. It all depends on what axis you're measuring on.

A lot of the alt right are former Democrats like Trump. I hate seeing a bunch of nationalist socialists ruin the Republican party but if Republican voters are dumb enough to vote for them I guess that's what we deserve.

Why not? He seems awful enough to win it if Trump dies or something.

I just think it wasn't a coup attempt. If it was, it was a pathetic effort and anyone who was for it should be ashamed they didn't do more, and anyone against it should be ashamed they didn't stop it. Either way, doesn't matter to me. I don't care if he goes back in or not. None of them are different.

US Statists are too fucking moronic to actually accomplish a coup anyway. Reps and Dems both bootlick when their party is in power, and hates them when they enforce opposing policy. Nothing will ever change and it will continue to be the same cycle over and over again as we stay on the carousel of bending over to get fucked by whoever is in power at the time. It's sad how complacent people are on giving their party more power without understanding that the other party can use those powers against them the next time they get control. Just fucking morons.

It was stopped. A gallows was erected for Pence etc. So many just dismiss it. Very similar movement around the mugshot. Just embracing it and rallying around it instead of admitting how unprecedented it is. If it's a witch hunt, then a lot of witches have been bagged.

I forgot to add earlier in there. It was meant to be “they didn’t stop it earlier.” At best, it was a miserable attempt as they were let in and paraded around. Maybe I’m too much of a history buff, but historically, successful coups don’t have leaders telling them to be peaceful and win it in court.

He posted that after being urged by his lawyers. Do you really think he meant that, even when trying to grab the steering wheel and head to the capitol? That statement totally deviates from the narrative and his style. Pence is too religious, but seems the least scary, despite calling on God in almost every sentence.

Show me any single shred of evidence that his lawyers asked him to do that other than "it's not his style."

That is evidence though? Every other post not made by his lawyers have weird all caps words, strange sentence structure or punctuation. That entire tweet was made by his team and posted on his behalf.

Also to say they were "let in" with videos showing them pushing past barricades, police, and stopping security doors from closing is a bold claim. They were all there because they wanted politicians to put the person they wanted in power and the only reason they didn't get to them is because of Ashley Babbit. Once they crossed that line and the crowd found out there were consequences they couldn't deal with it fizzled out.

One more for you. Would you rather we deal with attempted coups in court or similar to how Putin deals with uprisings? I'm no fan of Prigozhin but if the government delt Trump in the same fashion I wouldn't be defending their actions either.

I said "we" meaning Republicans. If Republican voters can't see through populist charlatans like Trump the party deserves to be destroyed by him.

He died yesterday. I was all ready to blame Biden for slow walking the F-16s but it sounds like it was a training accident. Really wish he could have got his F-16.
