Custom PC Build
I'm thinking about doing a custom pc build here in the coming months, and I'm not 100% computer savy when it comes down to all the little parts inside the case. What I'm wondering is if someone can give me a sudo list of all things necessary to get a custom build up and running. Some suggestions as to quality parts would be cool as well. I'm thinking nvidia gpu and intel processor for sure right now. Other than that no idea, and don't really care.

It's way easier then you'd think it is.
I'm not up to date on whats good though.

Re: Custom PC Build
Received the parts yesterday, wating on a coolermaster CM690 to build
AMD AM3 PHENOM II X4 955 3.2/8MB BOX
CORSAIR 650W REAL PS/2 TX SERIES
HD SATAII 500 GB SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.12 16MB
MEM DDR2 2GB 800MHZ KINGSTON
MB AM3 ASUS M4A785-M SOM/GBLAN/SATA/VGA/DVI/HDMI/DDR2 (GREEN)
VGA PCIEXP.1GB DDR5 HD5850 755M XXX 256BIT ATI TV/DUAL DVI/HDTV/HDMI XFX
Some considerations:
Since you are at USA and parts are cheaper you could go for a HD5870, and Phenom 965.
Yeah i know you wants intel stuff but that might give you an idea.
ATI cards are doing slight better then Nvidia graphics(not considering those ultra high shackattack levels VGA's)
You could see some DDR3 too, they were too expensive for me though.
Get a decent PSU, it will save you from headaches.

Re: Custom PC Build
PSU just crashed on me tonight, going to best buy tomorrow to buy a new one, lol. PC's gettin old, been having lots of problems with it lately and it's gaming power seems down, leading me to want to custom build. I'm running an AMD processor right now and don't really have a problem with it but I just feel intel is better for some reason. I've been looking at both nvidia cards, probably the gtx260 and a 760i motherboard. As far as power, is 500 watt enough? Probably gonna just opt for ddr2 ram, 4gb, gonna do win7 again, and yeah.

Re: Custom PC Build
Well i think infact intels are more trustworth, i've chosen Amd because of price. About the VGA, hmmmm i would look better. Compare with a HD5870 on price and performance. Yz has one, he can tell better about itddmx wrote:PSU just crashed on me tonight, going to best buy tomorrow to buy a new one, lol. Re: Custom PC Build
I'd get an Nvidia, purely because of the drivers. ATI drivers suck majorly compared to Nvidia's. The GTX260 is a good card and will handle any game fine.

Re: Custom PC Build
your best bet it is get a PSU, get ur comp backonline and save everything> price out stuff online/check stores> return PSU/buying new parts for new build.
I dont think you have any huge stores like we do out here in Arizona like frys electronics but Google around some computer shops.
but then again going onto newegg or something similar might be your best bet cause of where you live and what you have access too.
i personally have a 260gtx, itll run everything out fine and anything coming up fine at high. Just get a decent MOBO & processor. (2.80 + dual core or quad)
Might need a new tower to fit in new parts/videocard depending on what you have, my card was a tight fit on my new tower.

Re: Custom PC Build
mmmmmm, Fry's Electronics (is the shit) Carry on
Gl DD, I was going to do this too, but then settled on a "cheap" Gateway...Once I graduate I am sure i'll be doing the SAME thing you are though, building me an engineering (gaming) compuer
Make sure you put lot's of LED lights on it, so it looks like it's from the future, and therefore is more powerful
(sorry, I'm in a wierd mood)

Re: Custom PC Build
You should check out newegg.com. They got good prices and they have a psu requirement worksheet thing that will tell how many watts you will need. I got a 8gb ddr2 harddrive, 1tb of memory, amd x4 processor, new powersupply 580 watt and geforce 9800gt ggd3 512mb 256bit for just over 500 bills. They offer alot of products with free shipping also. it's worth a look.

Re: Custom PC Build
Yeah definitely newegg. They ship fast and if something comes that isn't working (with any computer component store this happens), they don't hassle you about it. I would say save your money and don't buy the uber expensive stuff, it only gives a marginal increase over the medium priced stuff. Generally my procedure is to go on newegg then pick a processor, get something that is like 150-250 bucks that has a lot of (positive) reviews. You can sort by number of reviews, or by rating, but don't sort by price. If you just get a dual core, it would be fine for mxs, a quad core might be better, I'm not sure. The big thing is to get a decent graphics card, processor, motherboard and memory combination, these things will determine how well you shit runs. Hmm, maybe I should just ask this:
Do you want performance ($1100+), midpriced performance(800-1100) or budget performance (600-800)? [The prices are without a monitor.] Constrain this problem a little bit and then maybe we can come up with more specific advice.

Re: Custom PC Build
For processor go for an i7 (920 is best $ for performance, overclocking it can perform the same as the faster ones, except the 980). If that's too much go for an i5. If you want a Nvidia card do what DJ said and get a 260, 285's are good but are still overpriced.

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813188049
260: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814125294
HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136283 (can go lower size if you want, but the model is good)
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227495

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product
$1,141.91, anyone correct the list if I put something in that's wrong. What parts are you going to keep? You would probably be able to get it under a grand if you keep the cd player, hd, and maybe power supply.
