Too good to be true?

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Too good to be true?

Post by mxracer118 »

So i decided to go on to cycle trader tonight just to check out bike for fun and i came across this: http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2008 ... 6-98588587
The bike has been tipped over but he says it just has "a little superficial damage not bad though". From what i can see i would need to replace a few fairings which would be a few hundred bucks. But here is where i get skeptical. He says hes willing to trade for a newer dirt bike, which i have and am trying to get rid of anyways. So what do you guys think? Too good to be true? or not? and if it is legit, is it worth it? for those of you who don't know i have a 2009 kx250f. Btw hes about 10 hours from me, but if i do end up trading I'm hoping he will meet me half way.

My Ninja 250 was also "dropped" by the previous owner, and i knew that when i went to look at the bike. I got there and the left side fairing had a nice black scuff mark and some of the decals were shaved off, the left mirror had scrapes on it, the tank has a dent where the left clip-on must have pushed into the tank, and the left muffler was dented. How could all this happen by dropping a bike? It didn't, he fucking crashed the thing. How do i know? Upon inspection of the bike i saw little signs of abuse...... for example the gauge cluster had scuff marks on the backside of it, and its covered by fairings there. The front fairing stay was bent, a tell tale sign of a crash. Also, the front wheel wasn't true straight to the bars. Also, he definitely replaced the left clip-on because the original one must have been bent to shit to dent the tank. The bike only had 855 miles on it though, and i knew i could repair everything. I called the local police department to make sure it didn't have a theft claim or salvage title and it was clean.

Bottom line, if you go look at the bike, make sure there is no frame damage (even brackets, like a fairing stay). If the bike is missing any nuts or bolts, the chain is dry and not lubed, sprockets old and worn, leaking ANYTHING, and/or any other signs of serious neglect, run far away as fast as you can.... unless you feel confident you can get a good deal on the bike and be able to fix it up.

Almost 11k miles on a 2008...wow, kind of a lot of miles I'd think...My brother had a '03 CBR954RR and sold it 2 years ago with 16k miles on it. 16k miles on a 7 year old bike isn't bad at all. Its probably a lot different tho, we have snow and ice in the winters here, Cali, not as much. This guy must've used it as his daily driver.

as an ex 600cc owner I can say that it is too good to be true, for sure. I do not know how the things are up there, but here in Brazil, even a crappyass superbike would cost something between 10 and 20k.

Taking in care that this R6 is looking nearly new, I would not trust, unless the engine is totally f* up, besides all the camshaft (not sure if this is the correct word) ...

New r6's out here are only around 8-9k. kx250fs aren't too much less and my bike is a year newer than his...

It doesn't really seem legit and its probably a 50/50. But whatever happens, get rid of that 09 KXF. You would be better off trading it in for a 10 or an 11 anyways.
