Few shots in game.
Big Thanks to Yahama for helping me with everything, and MX196 for testing it and taking screens.
It wouldn't look as good as it is now without these guys help.

It's not the spec map that looks funky, it's the normal. The folds in pants are going to be much more spread out and shallower than that.

You are using shading I originally made. Since I provided the shading as a PSD file, I don't see why you wouldn't bother customizing it to match your gear.

For instance, the FSK on the pants legs should be raised up and the spec map should be shiney (like its a leg patch made out of plastic).

In fact, I think I can even see the knee patch that was on my skin in that shading...

For everyone's information, taking care of things like that are whats called "taking care of details" and it's the difference between an OK skin and a really good skin.

Thanks for the tips, I was thinking of doing leg patches and butt too, just i don't really know how to do normals. I guess i'll have to figure it out then.

You draw a height map (like a disp map for a track) where neutral is 50% gray, then you run it through the NVIDIA Photoshop plugin for normal maps.

When using the gimp plugin, I just think like this:

-The color white = up
-The color black = down
-The color 50% grey = neutral

-The scale factor on the plugin tells you the height (up or down) your normal goes.

So, If you ran the plugin on a white object, at a scale of 2, then your normal will translate to an extrusion outward (or up) with a height of 2.

Remembering that 50% grey is neutral, always give your object a grey background before running the plugin. The edges of your normal will be smoother compared to an alpha background.
