You should ask permission from the creator of the gear to edit it as well.

If he is not releasing the gear, he can do what he wants with it. But the trouble is, getting the skins, as any smart skinner would saf his skins

Just an idea... what if jlv made it to where it was like the numbers, and so people could always see your name on the back...

See, I honestly don't understand this philosophy. To each his own I guess. I'd love to see personalized versions of my skins.
