Hello all,
A few days ago I purchased MXS after questioning if I should or not for quite some time, but I'm glad I did.
I just thought that I would say that the sim is rather impressive and that the developer has done a great job.
I have a few questions and I would appreciate it if you guys could help me out.
1. I was riding on Arcade physics and found it pretty fun, but people online were abusing me and telling me that I should use the realistic physics option. I switched over and have been trying to get good at riding all day, but I just cant seem to do it. To me it feels like the bike is trying to crash, that its metal and the grounds a magnet, constantly being pulled down.
I'm playing with my Xbox controller which makes it easier, but it doesn't really feel realistic, the way that the bike is so uncontrollable(I ride in real life).
For example, the bike loves to try and do front flips, even over a tiny ramp (I know that accelerating as you leave the ramp, and mid air counters this) but it just doesn't feel right...
Is it possible that my bike is setup incorrectly? It's all on default currently, can you recommend a setup?
2. Whenever I put up the ground texture levels and restart the game for them to take effect, the game drops to about 2 FPS for about 20 seconds or so, then randomly does it while I'm riding. (I presume this is due to buffering of the textures)
My PC is more than capable of running every modern game with next gen graphics on max (Crysis 2 for example). Is there any way to fix this?
Sorry about the wall of text. I'd really appreciate the help as this seems like a great sim.
Thanks,
Scrouch

Re: Hello!
To keep the front wheel up, let off the throttle for a split second on the face of the jump and then go back to full throttle as you take off.
Unless you have a huge amount of video memory keep the ground texture resolution under 512x512. IIRC, 1024x1024 would use over 2 gigs of texture memory for the terrain texture cache.

Re: Hello!
I'm not saying this to be a smartass, but I am a huge smartass. Most people would describe what I quoted as gravity, MXS has it, other mx games don't. Get used to it.Scrouch wrote: To me it feels like the bike is trying to crash, that its metal and the grounds a magnet, constantly being pulled down.
The reason it doesn't feel natural to you is because you've never tried controlling a bike and rider using a controller before. You'll get used to it. Start with your stability up higher, 80ish (can't remember where I started) and just ride until you can do consistent laps, then lower it by 10 and repeat. I play at 15, for racing there's really no reason to go lower than 10 IMO.

Re: Hello!
Take your front rebound damping and turn it down, turn up the front compression damping, take the rear rebound damping and turn it up, turn down the rear compressiong damping....then ride alot.

Re: Hello!
Thanks for the tips, I'll try them out.
What I meant is that it feels like the rider has no balance, that he's never ridden a bike before.Phathry25 wrote:I'm not saying this to be a smartass, but I am a huge smartass. Re: Hello!
Try making small adjustments, rather than flicking the control stick uncontrollably. Sim physics are really all about the small adjustments. When taking corners, you have to turn slightly, then countersteer! If you hold the stick to one side, the rider will continue to lean farther and farther until he leaves a skid mark with his nose. Ride the stock tracks. You shouldnt have any trouble with hardcore endo's if you are riding the stock tracks. Once you get used to them, go ahead and try some of the others.Scrouch wrote:What I meant is that it feels like the rider has no balance, that he's never ridden a bike before.
