i thought everyone did that haha, Its important to stop and look back bit after bit, mostly ontop of a jump, its mutch easier to spot lines from there.Tom cortvriendt wrote:Be relaxed, and walk around the track to see the lines, i always do that on my own, when i did that, i take some food and drink and sit down and chill until the race![]()
Also, have a good rest the day before your race

I just zone out, put my head on the bars and just run through the track and my lines. I also picture myself having the perfect race.

Re: how do you guys get over the nervers before a race
On the gate, I usually line up beside my friends. That way we can chat and have a good laugh before we get out on the track. Of course some people don't have friends in the same class as them. In that case, clear your mind of worries. Make sure your bike is ready (make sure its in 2nd gear), and do some stretching on the gate. This has always helped me. When I first started racing, I got REALLY nervous on the gate. By REALLY nervous, I mean I felt weak, and didn't even feel like riding. Once the gate dropped it was game on.
I still get somewhat nervous on the gate, but its mostly just about the start. If I hook up to much on the start, its a definite loop. The concrete is chewed up because we live in a wet environment, so you always get alot of traction. I overcame the fear of starts last year (1st year racing full sized bikes, after a 3 year break from racing 85's). I always start in 2nd, and I don't heat my tire. Of course, elbows up and all that jazz. Since im on a 250 2 stroke, I only have to use 2nd and 3rd on starts.
as for the actual race itself, just imagine your watching a helmet cam of a pro. foot up in corners, with toes pointed in, towards the front hub. Confidence in your equipment also plays a big toll. If I cant trust my front tire, I end up falling a lot.
anyways, hope some of this helped.
Cheers,
Balls

Thats possibly the worst advice you could ever give to someone. See how many minutes you last riding round a track at race speed with your feet on the pegs in every corner before you hit the deck like a sack of shit!Ballsfalsky wrote:I still get somewhat nervous on the gate, but its mostly just about the start. Watch this video and tell me how many times Izzi takes his foot off the peg for a corner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWJpOC-78Jk

If you werent a gooner youd be able to keep your feet on the pegs.BuddyTheElf wrote:Thats possibly the worst advice you could ever give to someone. And he was saying that when you have your foot out, keep it up so it isnt dragging in the dirt. You should learn to read.

Keeping your foot up in corners is for weight transfer if i'm not mistaken.

His exact words were "foot up in corners". To me when someone says feet up when talking about a corner that means keeping your feet on the pegs.rideblue56 wrote: If you werent a gooner youd be able to keep your feet on the pegs.

I can read perfectly well because he didnt say "foot up in corners so your leg isnt dragging" he just said "foot up in corners" His comment can be interpreted either way but its pretty misleading...
Taking your feet off in the corners is so that you can dab your foot easily if the front starts to wash. It doesnt really have anything to do with weight transfer as all your body weight is still going through the seat not the outside peg. You dont need to take your feet off to transer weight.

Actually, its to get your weight forward and on the front wheel for more traction, And to dab if needed. Same reason you pull the front brake a little in a rut.BuddyTheElf wrote:Taking your feet off in the corners is so that you can dab your foot easily if the front starts to wash. If you read the sentence as a whole, its pretty apparent what he meant.. How could you point your toe toward the hub is its on the peg..?
