Triggers Don't work

Alright, so I have a mac and ive been trying to get triggers working for a while. I have a wired microsoft 360 controller. When i try out the controller in my computer settings, the triggers work with rumble and all. But in game, i try to set the triggers as gas/brake and it won't work. I tried controller mate but it i got stuck on this one part that i could not get to work for the life of me. I even followed an instructional video on youtube but no luck. So if anyone with a mac has triggers working, could you please help me out. Thanks
