Why has the armour got so much model detail. Most of that can be done with a normal map.

Yeah, but why not model it if I can? I mean, I think I can.

Im having problems trying to curve it to fit the rider body with the curve modifier..

Should I just extrude out the base padding and then export, and try and make some maps for it or what? I was watching Ramon model his thor, and he modeled each individual piece, which is why I thought to try this. Any suggestions?

Attacker isn't the most efficient modeller.

Jlv recently said that the rider is the most expensive to render. You want to limit the amount of vertices used, because each vertex in the rider model has to have its position recalculated for the bone movements.

I would just make the shape of the armour, but make it flat, and do the details with the normal map. So yeah, you could extrude the padding. Even the padding looks like it could be cleaned up a bit.

ahhhh, gotcha. Problem is now, figuring out how to unwrap it to the already-filled rider-model UV.

Started work on the 2013 CRF450. Not sure how far I'll get really to be honest. I'm doing it up with CAD software so the mesh I export will be mostly of use for normal map bakes. The idea is that someone will just trace a low poly model and do the bakes. It's good CAD practice for me I guess.

Well yes, just what's shown there imported to Max as "Super Fine" is 4.3mil polys.

Exact dimensions FTW. Too bad it's a Honda though, should model a YZ250 instead, I know you tap one everyone once in a while...
