Build your own Engine mode!

Post by MX_Gh0ST »

Hello JLV,

I got a "litte" suggestion for you!
How about a mode where you can build your own engines with some values that we can get from the internet!

Like:

400cc / 440cc / 500cc
52HP @ 10000RPM
4 or 2 stroke!
40Nm
etc.

Just a simple ingame mode for a litte variety in the game!

Like this:

You can save / load / change your "ENGINE" settings and trade => send them to others or just release them in the forums!
Just for example:

Engine for the DRZ400S (2000):

Engine Displacement: 398cc (<= How much cc does your bike got)
Power: 29kw @ 7600 RPM (<= Power and RPM limits)
Max Torque: 36Nm @ 6400 RPM (<= your torque in Nm)
Max Speed: 153 KPH (<= Max speed)
Cylinders: 1 (<= Cylinders for exaple there is a Aprilia MXV with 2 cylinders like V2)

Image

And now for the "cheating" flamers:
You can enable / disable it @ the server configuration like "Modded bikes: ON / OFF"
Or you can add a limit of your "cc", "power", "torque", etc.

For example you can do some 85cc races ;)

With this mode you have the chance to build for example: CR85, CR500, EXC525, KX500, KX85,KTM SX 300, APRILIA SXV/MXV/RXV, ... NO LIMITS OF BUILDING :D

That is my suggestion.
Because sometimes i get bored of the bikes.

But its still a good game!

Greetings Gh0ST!!

Biggest problems I see:

Controlling the values for online races requires complete rebuild of the server code I believe. Don't quote me on that.

The power curve is more complex than a maximum value. Getting the right curve may warrant a bit of calculus knowledge.

Would be interesting to tweak power curves how I like them, though.

That update would be worth it!

How would you make the actual power curve? You can't make the bike work with only max power and torque numbers (and max speed won't help at all for this). Just having a value for displacement doesn't mean anything either, bore & stroke matters, porting matters... You'd be better off just making a custom power vs. rpm curve and not worrying about all the other values - those don't matter in game.

I don't think this would be worth it, the only thing close to this that I could see happening is efi mapping. http://motocrossactionmag.com/Main/News/2013.aspx

i would rather work with values...

My mention!

That was a stupid joke.

This would begin the era of Joe Motocross riding a CRF999999999R with 10000N of torque. I mean 125, 250f, 250, 450 are the only MOTOCROSS dynos you really need. 85s would be acceptable but pretty useless honestly. Ryan Villopoto doesn't get to choose his displacement, and for the most part doesn't get to define his torque. My point is, in real life, you can't adjust your displacement, torque, or whatever else, you get what you buy and you deal with it. You can get mods such as exhaust, high compression pistons with high octane fuel, EFI mapping, etc. but that's all you can really do. Even if you're seeing it as an arcade-y standpoint, even then I just don't see it as a good enough idea to spend months developing something that could do that.

I think that it would be supid to select all that stuff. However i do think it would be a cool idea to be able to work with the current power curves almost like you have an efi controller. Would be cool for that extra added customization.

That's not a difficult thing to do actually.
Set HP values for different rpms in 500rpm increments and interpolate the values between them and calculate the torque from equation T=P/(2*pi*revs per second).
Or set torque for different rpms and calculate HP. Either way works.

Don't know how detailed the engine simulation that jlv has done is, so a possibility to change other engine characteristics, like engine inertia etc, might be needed to get really different behaving engines.

This would be pretty fun addition if using it for cheating online can be prevented fairly easily.
