People "Hacking" the actual game?

Post by racerx105 »

Ok, i've been playing this game since early 08, and i'm not exactly sure how i stumbled on to this, but i found a program used for modding games, and i was quite surprised that this included Scripts for modding MX Simulator. I've always known that it is most definitely possible, just takes the right know how. People mod every game out there, even GTA, which is the biggest game on the planet, so Sim is probably quite simple in comparison. Not saying this is the case, but i wondered if maybe some of the fast guys may have made any alterations to the game to change aspects of the physics, etc. (And i'm not accusing, just wondering). Long story short, i got these script's, and decided to crack er' open and take a look. I am not really someone who is probably going to make any real magic happen, cause i don't know what i'm looking for. I've only opened a couple things so far, but i was compelled to post this. I'm guessing a game cracking software would not have the script's for MX Simulator for no reason. Any thoughts? Or if you have any more insight on this, PM me. For now i have decided not to disclose the program i am referring to. (THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A MALICIOUS TOPIC, JUST CURIOSITY) Here is a small piece of what i found.

This is "just" an .saf extractor, doesn't look to be anything more. JLV has even published the code here for unix users. However the script shown in your pictures aren't really the same as far as I can tell.

Ya I just didn't know if you were able to crack anything important with it. From what I've seen I don't see any files that jump out and say "game physics" but again I don't know doing.

It would be possible to modify the game exe. The game wouldn't prevent it although it does do some stuff to detect it.

A saf extractor is harmless.

So while we're on the subject of rules breakers here... Did anyone notice how norcal51 replied to racerx105's post like he was OP?

5. No multiple users.
Pretty sure he is breaking both of these.

Ya that post was not approved, so I said screw I'll post from my normal account... I chose to post as anonymous in the first place so I wouldn't have a million people write me with the question "hey what's that file?" Like I'm now getting, however I believe their was nothing wrong with my first post...

So i am curious to if you have detected people hacking the game to benefit them? I want nothing to do with trying either cause i think its pretty chicken shit to be honest but you obviously left this topic open for a reason. With out naming names have people cracked the game to change physics ect??

There's no reason to lock the topic. Nothing wrong with talking about it. As far as whether it's happened before, I checked a couple of times during rF races when I first added the detection code and didn't see any hacked executables. It's not foolproof though. I don't want to give away too much information about it since that'd help a potential cheater avoid detection.

Hacking Sim for moddeling it? As I know, most of people bought it because we can do whatever we want with the game, except change the physics...so why?
