"Mx Sim Realism Project"
First of all thank you JLV for such a legendary game to date.
I know we're all dying to know if we can run these new mods "MX Simulator Realism Project."
They consist of shading, sounds, tire marks, NEW first person camera as well as 3rd person camera, and lastly new environments (rain, snow, lightening)... I am personally waiting eagerly in hope of trying the first person Camera and sounds. I know several have reached out to JLV about this and he pointed us to the forums for the discussion.
(I currently play on a laptop and would be perfectly content with only the new first person camera as to not overload my PC)
Just hoping to start a productive conversation. Thank you!

Re: "Mx Sim Realism Project"
We were talking about it in this thread.
I haven't looked at it aside from watching the video but from what the author told me it sounds okay. He says it's just a replacement opengl dll. If it doesn't require an exact version of mx.exe my guess would be it's fine.

Sadly, it does. The entire project is vibe coded, so he has no idea how it works. It's reliant on your newest snapshot and definitively does not work on older snapshots.jlv wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2026 2:42 am We were talking about it in this thread.

Someone who bought them had ChatGPT run an analysis on it and it spit this out:

This is his install video.

Re: "Mx Sim Realism Project"
This was my “GTA 6” before I died. Haha. Many others and myself have been asking for a visual update for years now- specifically the first person camera. It’s almost on par with those MXS GoPro videos that were key cammed. My hope is that the mod is able to stay and be improved on over time. To the “it was vibe coded” point- most of us just want something that works and is enjoyable to play regardless how we arrive to that point, imo. It can be refined and built upon.
Please let it stay JLV!!!! <3

Yeah he sent me a followup and it's obvious it's not just a replacement opengl dll. I wouldn't run this online. Sorry to crush anyone's hopes.DBRider251 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2026 4:45 amSadly, it does. The entire project is vibe coded, so he has no idea how it works. I think it would be possible to do what it's doing in a straight up opengl replacement though. The game doesn't do anything fancy. Just a bunch of drawelements calls. The height field stuff is kind of complex but it's just more drawelements calls by the time it gets to opengl. The hardest part would probably be breaking the modelview matrix back into camera and object positions but I think you could probably do it by using the skybox matrix to get the camera orientation and deriving the rest.

Would this be ok for recording a demo/playback of a race and then uninstalling the files? If you believe this is possible, what is stopping you from doing it? Are you planning on doing anything like this? I feel if we get more updates a lot sooner, people wouldn't get desperate and try to do things like this that get shut down because they don't come from the top. We all love this game, and refuse to let it die.jlv wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2026 5:26 amYeah he sent me a followup and it's obvious it's not just a replacement opengl dll. I wouldn't run this online. when you say "woudnt use online" do you just mean racing in rf or do you mean just a server with the boys?jlv wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2026 5:26 amYeah he sent me a followup and it's obvious it's not just a replacement opengl dll. Re: "Mx Sim Realism Project"
They do say ignorance is bliss. But for context even for an experienced developer this stuff takes a lot of time to do correctly. One guy can only do so much when he has ill family members to take care of on top of a full time job. Your time gets used up very quickly. Before you know it a full month has gone by and it didn’t feel like even a few days.taylerbelle wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2026 5:52 am If you believe this is possible, what is stopping you from doing it? AI psychosis has kind of made everyone believe that everything can be easily implemented within weeks. The reality is AI often messes up, a lot. So while it may “look” correct, there is often issues that can go unnoticed for a long time.

That'd be safe. Just don't touch multiplayer in any form.

Re: "Mx Sim Realism Project"
It'd actually be easier for me since I control the source code and wouldn't need to recreate the scene from opengl calls. It is complex though and I'm having a hard time getting enough contiguous hours together to really focus on it.taylerbelle wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2026 5:52 amIf you believe this is possible, what is stopping you from doing it? Re: "Mx Sim Realism Project"
It's weird how AI is so smart and stupid at the same time. When I was updating the forum server for the php thing there was a problem with replies causing internal server errors. I gave the httpd error to Gemini and of course it had the entire phpbb source memorized and knew generally what to fix. So I tried its fix and it wasn't having any effect. Then it starts going into nonsense about php caching preventing my changes from running and wanting me to restart things and clear caches. I'm like, where's the best place to drop some error_log() calls around to see where it's going? It really had no idea how to do that. It tried once and when it didn't hit it was right back to wanting to fool with php caches. I ignored it and tried some more error_log()s and pretty quickly realized it had me changing the part for posts rather than replies.Jakob Hubbard wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2026 1:45 pm AI psychosis has kind of made everyone believe that everything can be easily implemented within weeks. Just funny how it basically knows everything but doesn't know basic debugging techniques. Claude would have probably done better.

We use Ignition at work and the amount of times I've asked it for something and it gave me a completely fake function that doesn't exist is baffling. I had to eventually write my own skill for it that tells it exactly what functions and properties are available to it because it was, for some reason, unable to search Inductive Automation's documentation and find the real stuff for it.jlv wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2026 2:33 amIt's weird how AI is so smart and stupid at the same time. I still code mostly by hand because it's actually terrible at writing scalable code in my opinion.
