Fair enough, but remember, there are thousands of people downloading the models, and at 500 USD, lets assume a very low download number of 2000, thats 25 cents per person. I am pretty sure you are up for that.TH_722 wrote:imo $500 dollars is ridiculous $100 is the highest I would ever go

Yes for sure, I in fact had in mind that the model was to be finished before people started funding, even though this will stretch the process, it will ensure people are satisfied with the product via screenshots and such.Phathry25 wrote:I think you need to be very clear about what, when and how you are going to release anything that you are accepting money for in this way. If I donate to this cause only to find out that some team that sucks up to you has access to anything that I dinated towards before me I am not going to be very happy. Unless of course it was spelled out very clearly in the description of what I was donating towards. This also applies to anyone you're working with.
Basically what I am saying is the entire process needs to be transparent.
Since you're here gauging interest why not throw out a $$$$$$ number?
This is a really cool idea, I never thought people would actually think this way, which is why I never attempted, but seeing as this is an option, I think this is great!MXJProductions wrote:Honestly, I am all for creators getting paid something. After all if it was not for the community there would be no way as many keys would be sold as it is now. It is because the creators create content appealing to the public to see. The only part I disagree with getting paid to replicate models is recreating real models that you do not have rights to do in the first place. I personally think it would be cool to see creators come up with their own design instead of models created by real companies. This is why I am such a fan of Kawasakis content ( for riding gear ), because he creates everything off the top of his head, and creates fresh stuff that no one in real life has.
May sound far fetched , but if you are going to create something, create something you draw up yourself instead of something that has already been thought of. This community has enough creativity, why not go for it?

Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
$500 sounded good in my head as well. That's 100 people donating $5 which really isn't anything, you can hardly get a candy bar for less than that.
But then I thought its basically going to be the same 100 people donating for every model and that's not really that fair either. I am assuming that the plan is to set a donation goal for each model and when you consider there is more than one creator looking into this suddenly the $500 starts sounding higher and higher if every creator or team asks for that much.
In the interest of actually meeting your goals repeatedly the $100 Hoffman threw out sounds more realistic. and because you have better odds of getting the $100 you actually get the money and get to release your work versus not meeting your goal and getting nothing out of it. Of course you actually have to stick to it. I would assume based on past history that if the work gets to anyone other than the creator it will get passed around like markhams mom and aint nobody be interested in donating for that!

Totally think its fair, Also I say we start using a website to host this stuff and stop using mediafire. The donation monthly to site gets you access to the site. funds pay for web hosting and site, and money goes back to the creator for items made and hosted. We come together we can make a bigger better community.
Also I am willing to help pay for the servers and hosting, just need help building the site(suck at web site building) See puremx is not coming back, we need a better site.

Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
Guess ill be the first one to start it this time...
Before anymore nationals or GPs are released, the track creator union will have to start a kickstarter fund. And before rF or MXScentral hosts anymore races they too will have to start a kickstarter fund. And well have to back date P2sta for the rider models everyone uses and so on and on and on.
You know, the racefactory and mxs central sites actually cost money. Not just take time.
I mean if people are willing to back you in this and pay for it, so be it. I just hope those people aren't surprised when they have to start paying for everything. Itll be interesting to see how this pans out. I would suggest the kickstarter method or something similar. Not just a "donate to my paypal" deal.

While I am bummed I have not experienced Markham's mom yet, I agree 100%. Models in the past get leaked by insider "friends", and turn into a hectic drama fest. Perhaps though if money is involved, maybe it will work out more cautiously.Phathry25 wrote:I would assume based on past history that if the work gets to anyone other than the creator it will get passed around like markhams mom and aint nobody be interested in donating for that!

I see what you are saying phat. Although how many times a year does a full bike model get released? Im thinking for other things such as my wrist braces or my Atlas for example, would be much less than a bike goal. I think for things like that Hoffman's goal is pretty good. It does suck to for the people who donate over and over while others sit back and leech from it. The only way to stop that is if a creator was to charge $5 or so, per person to download (without the donation goal obviously) which was tried already by Ramon and it got hated on. Then you have to worry about people buying it, sharing it, releasing it, etc. Although it sucks for those 100 people who donate over and over the donation way is the only way for it work properly. Plus it's a choice you can pick and choose who you want, and what you want to donate to.
Barrington, we are talking about the kickstarter deal. Not paypal donations. It is true those websites do cost money, and I they do accept donations at anytime from anyone. I think it's fair really for them to do kickstarter funds. I'm do not know if rF makes money from advertising or not so I'm not gonna say anything I don't know about but I do know websites like Mxot made bank off of advertising. I think I was told he made $25,000 a year off of the website advertising alone. Nothing in life is free so I guess it's better off learning that lesson now.
I do have a kickstarter question though, lets say I make a $ goal for a month from now (release date) and if the goal is not met by then do all the donators get their money back? Or do they not get charged for it until the goal is met?

Nevermind I went and read their FAQ page. People pledge the amount they will donate and if the goal is met when the deadline date is reached everyone gets charged via credit card.

Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
Why dont you just release the stuff? you made it for the game who cares. put it out and people say thanks, thats whats been happening and will continue to happen. If you want people to donate to you and pay you for it your playing the wrong game. Its just a model and pictures. it takes alot of work but no one will pay for it. just release it.

Wow, that never crossed my mind...

Re: Information: Yz125 Funding
I was thinking $500-$1000. Great minds think alike, but so do simple ones.m121c wrote:Unfortunately as the community grows you get a higher percentage of the bad. The community is completely different now and ultimately has made it come to this. Wish I could released things for the fun of the game and just the fun of making it but it's no fun for it to be ripped, passed around, disrespected, and made look bad by people. The amount of things that have been ripped this past week is crazy, it's like ripping has become the new way of creating almost.
So I'm just gonna throw a $ amount out there for discussion. For a full bike model with jm's, template, and pngs released I would think somewhere around $500 is sufficient? In my opinion that's a pretty low goal but I figured I would start somewhere.
