Why do a lot of people feel the need to jump the startgate ? There is no fun in taking a lead even before the race begins.. is there ? Where is the action then ?
A good idea would be to prevent pulling back the bike before the gate falls. That way jumping the gate would maybe become impossible.

Also some people like the lean back to get extra traction (although ive tried and dont think it does anything)
AND
when i practise i always jump the gate to save the annoyance to waiting for ever

I lean back as well in the start but i don't jump the gate. I have no idea if it gives extra traction. Maybe it's just a thought lol.
And if you practise you can always do time trials. That way you don't have to wait for the startgate to drop
