An xbox360 controller will work just fine. The full game is definately waaaaay better than the demo. So it will be an upgrade.

I used a ps3 controller aswell, but when I started using windows7 on my pc it didn't work anymore, so right now I'm using an xbox controller:p
they're both good in this game
